STATE OF PLAY:
  • The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
  • Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
  • Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
  • This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
  • Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

The game is still way too easy I think. I seem to be able to pluck every mark regardless of positioning or timing. If the ai could spoil it would make the game much harder me thinks.

Also the ai decision making needs to be better. So many times they will be streaming forward and then they'll kick 50 metres backwards and have to start again. Fix these two things and the game will be much harder.

Well they updated Will Brodie.....to another generic face scan.....

They seem to have given all the players who weren't scanned different generic faces at least.....which I guess is better than how it was originally.

I think there is a slap along the ground mechanic, but that doesn't help when you're in possession of the ball and are rushing towards the boundary line.
Yeah true - guess we probably won't get something to fix that until we get instant feedback on the joystick that allows the players to move seamlessly as we move. Maybe when AFL hits VR :p
 
Probably hard to tell because there are no tutorials that explain the mechanics so people have no idea if they're doing it wrong or if it's a bug.

Maybe? But if there was I don't think the player could paddle it along the boundary line with any sort of control/slap it back into play. It would have been like the soccer kick.

I could be wrong. Someone needs to record them doing it along the boundary.
If I had to guess, that would only work if your player is near the boundary line but is facing inside the field of play and can tap the ball in. I couldn't imagine it actually working where you're facing the boundary line and can reverse slap it back to keep the ball alive. Someone could give it a shot, though, but that's how the broken mechanics have been going in my experience.

How do you judge the timing for the mark ? I seem to have more success doing it while defending the opponents 50m arc, if I try to mark in the center/wings/my own forward 50, I get out-marked 90% of the time even when I'm first to the ball or have what I feel is optimal positioning (same as when I defend).

Haha yes I've seen that so many times, they'd get it to their forward 50, have plenty of space to either a) have a shot at goal on the run or b) pass it to an open player in their forward 50..... but they pass it to a player (or just blindly to open space) behind them.

It's broken. The players don't even put their arms up for it when you press Y.

Yeah agreed, and chasing the ball towards the boundary is far more common. Like, if you're facing the field of play it's probably easier to just pick the ball up because your idiot player isn't going to stroll out of bounds if he's moving away from the boundary line.

With a slap/paddle mechanic I was probably being way too ambitious given the state of the game. Like pre-release I was imagining the AI being smart enough to recognise the boundary line coming up and automatically understanding the need to keep it in play, automatically paddling it along until they were in a position to pick it up rather than automatically picking it up and charging out of bounds.
 
Hopefully the slow kicking issue gets fixed. Very frustrating to try and make space but still get tackled by the AI. The kicking animation should begin instantly after initiating the kick.

AI definitely feels harder as they move the ball along quicker, sprint more, and can actually mark.
That little twirl is cool, but the CPU isn't even moving and there's no collision and the animation is skipping/glitched.

I think about half a second before the ball gets to the player. Although I'm not 100% because I'm pretty much going off gut feel from the Evo games. Seems to work the same.

I've had a bit of a play at making kits and here are some results. Positioning and scaling logos seems clunky, but it looks alright in game with some patience.

Firstly, amazing work they look great! Pardon my noob like question here, but how do you get the logos in there, is that just part of the svg file upload and then you just position them?

I was actually going to ask about the golf game - which one are you playing and is it good?

There’s one on PSN store that’s about $110 and I can’t seem to find it in EB Games for a trial/potential refund down the track.
