The dream is over...

There is no way in hell that we are ever truly going to get a good AFL game and this launch proves it. I'll honestly be surprised if the AFL doesn't revoke Big Ant of the license over how bad this release was. Doesn't matter if this game can be salvaged or not. It's dead on arrival. It needed to stick the landing and it crashed horribly. The naysayers were right all along and we were fools to not trust them. Big Ant were our best hope and they blew it... They blew it royally.

Question now is... Where do we go from here?

It'll be a miracle if Big Ant fix this game in quick enough time frame, Let alone be able to keep the license after causing so much damage to the AFL brand today. Who else is there left?

EA or 2K? They'd laugh in our face for suggesting they'd make an Aussie Rules game. We're small potatoes on the Sporting Landscape! They'd make no money on it.

Wicked Witch again? Not many people liked their games, They didn't seem too passionate about the sport and they've since been bought by Keywords Studios and become Wicked Workshop while getting to make games they actually want to make.

Another dev? Who else is out there in Australia who'd be able to pull it off? Name me one.

Face it, Our dreams are just dreams. Nothing more.

They're wonderful dreams but once we wake up, Reality sets in. And the reality is that we're just too small of a sport to be able to have the video game of our dreams. We've just got to accept that, and the AFL has just got to accept that too.
Cheers Lingy

This smells like a copypasta.

We finally hit stage 5 of grief everyone

blokes getting 45 touches a game on 2 and a half minute quarters in management mode laughable
Tbf I would get 20 goals as a FF in 5 minute terms on Evo 2 solo mode so I don't doubt it

I dunno. I think this could be a good game.
Don't get me wrong. I've already refunded it on Steam. But I think the game looks good. And bugs all seem like fixable issues. It just depends how much time and effort they want to put into it to get it to a good standard. Even if they just got it to the level of the 2011 game with these visuals, I'd be satisfied.
I won't defend it with "All games need a patch on day 1" because I've played a lot of Day 1 releases including Jedi Survivor, Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky and even they weren't in a state this bad.
Bad optimisation is one thing. That's not what this is. This is a broken game.
But it's a broken game that can be fixed.

Is anyone actually surprised they fumbled this?
I don't think BigFooty would have survived a successful launch. The ad revenue alone from the last thread would have given Chief enough money for another yacht

So please enlighten me which developer and publisher will come in to push a game into a niche sport where it's not even the most popular sport in every state.

Because while the lead up and launch has been a dumpster fire. Getting afl games is a rare occurrence hopefully bigant can build of the base they have created then keep refining what they have envisioned because there is a low chance we will get another afl game for a decade if this tanks ...
Anyone if Micro Transactions are involved to make profit

I was going to buy it today, but will wait until the patch and consider from there.

Haven't been involved in the waiting process, but why is it unreasonable in the eyes of many to ask a company, when they've just cocked up the release of a highly-anticipated game, to come out with some kind of press release explaining what has happened?

Unless all of their Youtubers are in on the whole thing, which is possible, it seems like the game has taken a dive in quality since last week with the final changes they made. That's explainable, surely. Obviously the enormous holes in the product, like no stats at QT and season mode being broken, are another matter altogether.

Like I said, I haven't been on this board or waiting with bated breath, but I've had it in the calendar as something to look forward to. Looking from the outside in, it appears the company didn't do their due diligence before launch, and have now absolved themselves from the conversation on launch day after using social media as their main form of marketing. I'm sure the devs are flat out trying to fix it, but is there nobody in comms at Big Ant?

Sorry working/playing so cant dive through the thread. Is the .0002 patch that installed with the PS5 version the day 1 patch? Or something else?

Doesn't look like it. Either the incorrect patch is released or the patch hasn't been made public yet and we are using a patch that's just got security fixes to load the menu - remember Ross said people won't be able to load the game if they received it earlier.

The blocked version to stop people loading it before release (most likely version 1.000.001) and to allow the menu to load - which is what everyone seems to have (most likely version 1.000.002). The first official day 1 patch must be 1.001.000, just a guess but the version number doesn't seem right for a day 1 patch.
