Multiplat AFL 23: Launch Thread (Xbox release date TBC)

STATE OF PLAY:

• The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
• Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
• Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
• This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
• Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

GoldbergsGold hates the Evo games even more than Ross hates giving us concrete details about his games pre-release, so for him to say the Evo games are still better than this in terms of player movement etc is a big red flag.

I mean this with respect but if you can't tell that game play has improved, outside of ruck contests, from my stream the last 2 nights you must be watching the wrong video.

By no stretch is it perfect but it's absolutely improved to a playable state over the last 2 patches.

Crashes aside, I enjoyed my games last night too with the passages of play I could create

First game after patch on Ps5.

Pros.

• handballs feel good.
• some unforced errors by AI and player.
• Love the scrappy handballs and kicks while being tackled.

Cons.

• AI always have free players.
• General positioning is a bit loose, I'd like to see more congestion in the middle of the ground when the AI are coming out of defence.
• When the AI take a mark, sometimes 3 players will hover around the mark while there opposition run off.
• Only played one game, but it crashed late in the second quarter.

Overall though I think we are on the right track, just needs more work.

If you are on PS, and find you are crashing a bit too much after the latest patch I uninstalled, then reinstalled it along with downloading the patch again (25gb for me). Haven't had a crash yet and got my fingers cross. I had two games with two crashes right after installing the patch this morning.

Played the latest patch and must say it’s a lot better than yesterday’s patch.

Player movement feels a lot more responsive and handballs are no longer useless. Much less infuriating now.

Things that need fixing:

1. Missed tackles are nice but are too frequent and look a bit silly.
2. Turning after a handball receive could be tweaked to be a little faster.
3. Short kicks still keep hitting the guy two metres in front.
4. AI still too accurate in front of goal.
5. Most of the time you can’t switch players when manning the mark. This is annoying as I like to guard space with a different player.

I don't say that as an exaggeration, the controls are responsive and precise in terms of where I can move my players in those WW football games, and the meter is responsive, too.

It's more the claims of the gameplay being great, when I'm showing evidence showing it's broken. Big Ant could get the wrong idea that things are going swimmingly, when I've gone into detail about it's problems, which no one has yet to counter. Enjoy any game you please, but it's bizarre people are cross I dare bring up in detail its obvious problems with video evidence and written detail.

I’m not saying anything you’ve said is wrong, there is a lot of work to be done on this game, it’s also progressed well to this point in a short time.

You’re doing a lot more than most to contribute to this game reaching its full potential and i and I’m sure others appreciate the effort your putting in.
It was just coming back at every positive post made it sound like they can’t say anything positive.

My bad if I’ve misunderstood.

Have we heard whether we'll be able to use Custom Teams in Management Mode at any point? Keen to make a Tasmania Devils team but not sure I want to put in the effort if you can only use them in Play Now.

I would more recommend waitng maybe till the end of this week or sometime next week. Games getting better and with daily patchs it cant be too far from really hitting its strides.

Simply because the game is objectively broken, it's been in the news, not too sure what is so controversial about going into detail what the faults are. If you enjoy it in a glitched condition, go for it, not telling you not to enjoy yourself. But I'm just going into detail that most of the mechanics that you're enjoying are broken, and I would like them all to be fixed, so we can have a truly great game.

It shows up for me on steam. It's underneath the player and looks like the timing bar from the set shots. It is very small though admittedly.

I did prefer how the marking worked in the Evo games though. Made it much easier to time it

Ah ok, I can see it now in people’s streams… although it’s hard to see just inside the player marker circle.

I’ll check again if it works on PS5… but I have noticed that it sticks with players as they run around… like there’s a bug that doesn’t ‘close’ it after a contest.

Yeah it's the dissonance within the same sentence that is hard to grasp. 'Had an awesome string of play apart from the AI standing around doing nothing'

Some of my matches were freezing and I couldn't get out of the frozen screen unless I user signed out of my PC. Alt tab wasn't working.

This is what I thought I would have to do. Will see how it goes tonight and then if still crashes will uninstall and reinstall.
