Hi,

I'm new to this forum but I thought you might be interested in these wide shots of the Oval which I took at a function on Saturday. I was pretty pumped to see it and pleasingly my wife, who was upset at the redevelopment because of concerns about a loss of character, was surprised at how great it looked. It's going to be unbelievable there at a night game.

What was Adelaide Oval's previous capacity?

I think before they redeveloped the Members stand in 2010 it was about 32,000.
After the Members stand was completed in 2010 it was 38,791.
Since the southern and eastern stands have been a construction zone I think it was under 20,000.

I can tell you and it’s not on Wiki, that during the Ashes test in January 1975 is was standing room only from the fig trees northern end to the old stand that preceded the now defunct Bradman stand. Lillie and Thommo were the main attractions.

The first day was washed out and anyone who went in was granted a ticket for day two. Must have been between 40k to 45k.
Never happened again.

Do you mean the Cresswell Stand? Bradman Stand was built in 1991, replacing the Cresswell Stand.

lol what? please tell me this was a joke. Cricket for what it offers AO is by far the secondary tenant. In fact if it was a contest Cricket comes so far second its struggling to be in view!

Who gives a shit?

I love both sports, and can't wait to see both of them played there.

Not interested in any dick measuring competitions between the codes.

Cricket also offers Adelaide INTERNATIONAL exposure, something football does not.

I don't think it was a measuring contest, I think it stemmed from the question that footy and cricket should contribute half each to the SMA to acheive their "goal" - was it $20 mill a year??

I hope that footy isn't expected to contribute the lions share as they only have access for 1/2 the year.

Is that meant to benefit the city?
DOmestic exposure is a larger key. Showcase the oval to those who might actually come here and spend money to see and experience it.
Cricket fans from overseas were coming or not anyway. Makes no difference at all.

Heh?

International cricket means it's shown internationally on tv. If anything the internationals would also entice interstate travelers more than a domestic game would as hardly anyone watches it or it's not even televised.

Not sure why we arguing over what is better for AO - Cricket or Football. Would have thought the answer is both!

Easier to have a viable modern stadium with both codes playing at AO.

Really looking forward to the massive crowds at the Ashes & equally watching footy will be much more pleasurable experience at AO.

Bring it on!

I thought that you might enjoy another photo that I took of the Adelaide Oval at night. It'll be spectacular in the evening after a nice meal and drinks in town.

Cheers

Did the North Adelaide residents manage to get their 7pm curfew on the lights?
