AFL Cairns - 2012 Season

I hear a couple of saints have gone to Norths. Not sure why. Apparently a couple from hawks to saints. Is there a reason for the points system. I would be shocked to see if saints would bother with anyone from another club. They apparently have good numbers so why put up with the worry of points. Team who comes last year before (lions) should get in house players for 4 points.

What is with playing at Easter??? absolute joke..... Hopefully clubs can field teams but wouldn't suprise me to see 16 a side etc in the Twos on this weekend or even a few forfeits... Can't imagine any players being in favour of playing at Easter.

I'm with you DRK, what are they thinking?? I see in todays fish wrapper that the league claims it will bring it into line with other leagues such as the AFL. Whilst it is nice to keep things uniformed, the CAFL isn't the 'AFL'. On top of players not being keen, how many punters will turn up to watch a game on the four day weekend??

Carnnn the tigers! Thats a great signing, its coming together very nicely!

Rd1 Hawks v's Sainters will be worth watching. I dont think both teams will show much in the preseason but think come the first game of the season, it will be good viewing with Saints kicking a cricket score over the Hawks. Mail is saints have lost a few but the replacements are high quality with word Jason Eagle is in Darwin and a chance to return back to saints.

Will Hawks have a Coach by then???

worth the thought ,

(but no one suggested this when Souths only won one game 2 yr ago)

They should have scheduled a game Good friday and cashed in on big gate takings as there's nothing else to do!

Handy pick up for the cuttersand have picked up a few boys from down that way. Harmen will be the best of them and should be a solid player in the Cairns league. Don't think he'll dominate though. Cutters will need a few more of him to be a force this year I believe.

Any word on Jeremy Gleeson signing at hawks? Can this be confirmed?

Look out if the Eagle returns to the nest at Griffths. The Saints forward line will be very handy if they have coach nick, walsh, eagle, mcqueen, allen and hallas running around. Some cricket scores could well be kicked!

I have been told on pretty good word when i was at the seafood shop that Langford will be at Saints this year as they have got him a job and Martin will also be following. Its understood he said last night to Andy Heritage he wouldnt return to the tiger den, which i am disappointed to hear but wouldnt be at Hawks this year. Looks like the forward line at Saints is going to be stronger unless they put both Langford and Martin down back!

Great numbers at the tigers again! Looks grand!

I dont know but i think at tigerland we have the best coach in the league with Kane Ricter..... CAFL isnt anywhere near a state league or AFL standard so the coach needs to understand our footy culture up here! Very different to back home in Vic, footy is everything down there and you give your right arm to have a kick and train every night. Judging by todays article, its a very poor attitude to hold in the case of Manunda Hawks! If an ex AFL player shows interest, i would be getting him to the club in some capacity, they make out they are the Collingwood of the league and that Richard Martin is the Eddy Maguire with their attitude towards the appointment of their coach and the dismissive approach taken thus far! Good Luck to them!

What a joke! As noted, CAFL is a far cry from the AFL and if our local league believes we will not loose players and our clubs struggle to fill two teams over that holiday period, then i will pull my pants down and walk through the mall in my full glory for all to see!

Melissa Dunstan and Gary Young, please wake up to yourselves!

Tigers feelings are the same as last year: good riddance.

The only word on Gleeson is that he's coached in Vic country, around Warrnambool and is a development coach with Nth Ballarat Rebels U18's, he's is looking for a suitable job in Cairns is the mail from a Hawks person.

If these two guys were making the move to Saints they would have started training by now surely. They haven't been seen at any Saints trainings i have watched and i havent missed many. Maybe they are waiting for the clearance to go through first. Have to wait and see on that one.

Richard Martin has had candidates for the job and from what I've been told he hasn't had the respect to phone some of them back. My mail could be wrong but I highly doubt it is.

Oh and hi Tamby (smile face).

I have to agree, I would find it extremely hard to knock back an ex AFL player. Hawks must have their reasons. Maybe it was Fevola???:eek::eek:

He's trying his hand at 'punting' oh the irony of that sentence. His first crack at punting didn't pan out so well so we'll see how this go works out:cool:.

Hawks have plenty of experience at the club, player wise, who's taking training ?? Are they waiting for DJ to finish at St.Marys:eek:??

Some clearances added to the clearances page. If you take out the NTFL clearances there are 12 already listed.

7 of those are to Souths (Good job Cutters), 5 of which are from Warrnambool & District Football Netball League, Sam Jones from Lions  and 1 from Hampden

Coatsworth, Dixon, J Martin all going to North Central Football League from Saints.

and a couple from Port leaving as well..

...and so it BEGINS!

Hey Tamba, should we put our names down over at the Hawks? They obviously haven't had any quality applications for coaches yet.....

I heard one of the criteria is someone who can get Plugger fit…. No wonder they haven’t had anyone qualify

You specialise in Lap Band surgeries don't you DRK.

Had a look at the clearances last night and notice souths had done quiet well in regards to recruits from Warrnambool. Did a little research and found that only a few of these boys played senior football a ]t Merrivale last year with most playing in the magoos. The district league is an ok league at best but the two's football is appalling. Ok recruits at best...

Tommy have the hawks confirmed a coach? If so have you heard rumors of this guy Jeremy Gleeson?

Any news on Nick Gill yet guys. Lions would have to be the best shot surely??
