AFL Camera/Photography Policy?

I'm wondering if any of you know what the policy is about bringing cameras into the footy, are there any restrictions?

Not that i am aware. Obviously there are restrictions on video photography.

I took along my dSLR to a few games last season without any problems.

You would have to think that the only restriction on cameras would be if you intended on using the images to profit from them (ie. sell them to a newspaper etc).

there's no restrictions on bringing camera's (of the still shot variety) into the footy. i took about 100 photos at one of the games last year. there's no restriction on selling them either....copyright remains with the person taking the photos and has nothing to do with the afl. finding someone to buy them might be a different story though, they'd all have their own cameras there.

There are no restrictions. When I took my girlfriend earlier in the year we rang the Telstra Dome just in case because she didn't wanna get her $2000 camera taken away from her even if it was cloaked. They said it was fine as long as there was no video function.

I took my digital SLR to the game during the 06 season and there was no issue at all. I was even using a long telephoto lens and monopod! :)
I was just being mindful not to be obstructive or bother other spectators

what $2000 camera does not have a video function, although i dont know much about SLR cameras.

High end digital SLRs don't have video function and many of them are worth a lot more than $2k.

So you lie.

"Can this take video mate?"
"Nah man, I wish *laughs*"
"Haha cool, have a good night mate"

And you're in.

yeah I have never had a problem taking my nikon and zoom lens to the footy.

I guess if you walk in with a 500mm l series lens and just plonk it over the fence maybe but nothing much can be done.

Who the hell would take rollerblades to the football?

Fancy digital cameras do not have video functions. The video option is just a gimmick for the cheaper ones.

I did, but didn't go near the fence. I just remained in the crowd. This was before my cheer squad days, otherwise I probably would've and I don't think there would've been a problem anyway.

you sat in the crowd with such a big lens? Were you told the f off? I wouldnt be able to sit amongst a crowd having such big glass.

Unless you go to a Port Vs Melb game where there is hardly anyone there..actually any demons home game.

Nope. People in the Noble Stand were/are very polite, respectful and attentive. I was careful not to bother anyone and I only had the lens up whenever I would be taking a photo, before putting the camera back down again. It was never an issue. :)

I think grounds also have some restrictions, i am not sure if it was TD or MCG but one of them didn't allow cameras, I had to smuggle mine in. :P
