We had extensive photo shoots just for the game with multiple angles. There were also extensive measurements taken of bicept/waist/legs/etc... so we can accurately reflect body shapes in game.

So, yes, players are distinctly different.

EDIT: I should add that certain players went into the weights room to pump their muscles and get better measurements, some were measured 3 times! :)

Good to know thanks mate :thumbsu:

Yes. Rain, sunshine, even shadows of clouds going accross the ground.
Ok that is just awesome. Can i come to your office to just shake the whole teams hand lol.

Another question with regard to whether, will players fumble, slip over and get muddy if its really wet?

Does it affect gameplay at all? As in rained in games will get bogged down a bit and require short quick kicks and not long pin point passing?

Also can the weather randomly turn, knowing Melbourne it can be sunshine one minute pissing down the next any possibility that sort of thing can happen during a match?

2 questions here that are relatively pointless to the game but will hair have it's own physics and move and sway? Also do jumpers have physics as well to move realistically? And I guess adding to that are there wet cloth physics?

I am astonished at how good this small developer has done, the screens we have seen are almost the same if not better than fifa

The stumbling I am not sure of, I will find out tomorrow.... I know the players get muddy and the ground wears.

The thing that annoyed me about AFL 2007 was that most games seemed to be played in the rain for some reason.

Rain is really good for hiding "jaggies" - what we might in the industry call anti-aliasing.

I wish we could have rain permanently on - it makes everything look better :)

When players get injured, will you see how it happened?. Like if they do their hammy, will it be an extra lunge, or if they break their hand, will they come off clutching their hand. Or will it be similar to the old games, where the game is paused and you take the guy off, or it just happens when they are tackled.

Thanks

Good enough. I would like to say for the first game in the series you plan to make, you have included an exceptional amount of detail and content that we know of, and given that a full press release isn't out and will contain details you aren't able to disclose, I for one am more than impressed. Congrats to you and the whole team working on it to put in so much attention to detail. I know in the early days of the games announcement people would have happily settled for a bare bones game that played alright and looked like a playstation game.

If the hair's the wrong colour then I'll update it first thing in the morning - if it's the right colour then I'll post the original photo :)

The logo's will be the ones that are used at the grounds, these are placeholder.

I definitely think it should be more blonde! Don't think Daisy's hair has ever been a shade of orange/ranga.

Unless it looks different in the game when compared to the screenshot :)

Face is spot on though. Great work guys :thumbsu:

You seem to be discounting the quality that can come from small developers. Look at LittleBigPlanet, a game made by around 20 people that went on to be one of the most fully featured and best selling titles on the PS3.

There's also a game on the PSN made by 1 single person. Another Joe Danger made by 4 people which is another feature filled to the brim title.

It's the desire to make a good game that you have to admire from BigAnt (and any small budget/dev team), they truly want to break the 'AFL games can't be good' motto it's received over the years and despite not seeing gameplay yet - which will be the real tester IMO - it seems they are definitely on the right track. Budget, dev size, etc. rarely will that stop a developer from making a quality game if the desire is there.

I'd just like to add in too, a big game killer in 2007 and all those before that was how slow everything was, not just the pace of the game but player reactions and animations, it was impossible to fire a quick handpass away before being tackled. If this can be improved in this version it'd be awesome.

Yea one thing that i hated about some of the earlier games was the way that you could get a player to the ball but weren't able to make them mark it or punch it. In 07 the smothering was far too common also.

One question that i have, is there gang tackles? Will more than 2 players be involved in a tackle?

We are relatively small, perhaps, but we are Australia's second largest studio.

The points about passion for the game cannot be overstated. When the CEO (me) and all leads are passionate about their footy then you know we are going to be doing our best. It would be embarrassing to make anything other than something we can be proud of. My son has already told me that this game better be good or his friends are really going to give it to him big time!

We are working on many games here, it is up to the individual publisher to dictate release dates, not us. Truth or Lies which we are doing for THQ, as an example, had no prior press until E3. World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, also with THQ, had press/announcements more than a year before it came out.

Not going to say anything about the release date, but the NRL announcement is different to the AFL as it was held back due to there being a game in the market. Given that you work at EB, you would probably be aware of the Wii Rugby game released this year and how a "next-gen" announcement would have effected its sales :)

Is that the one that was coming out on 360 and PS3?

We had a release date in the system for it, but it came and went and dissapeared from our system

Onto the AFL game, Daisy loosk great. I am surprised by how good the hair looks, as hair is notriously hard to apply in games.

Its the reason a few fighters were left out from UFC 09, and why a lot of protagonists have shaved heads. Kudos.

Unfortunately for me, being in the West, not much was made of the rugby game for Wii. Only got a couple of pre orders, and have sold SFA copies. But i am sure our east coast brethren have shipped massive loads of the game, just as they have pre sold mass amounts of RLL. (and i run one of the busiest stores in the country)

AFL will be huge in SA, WA and Vic. Can't wait for its proper announcement.

Also, will you be at the show in October?

That's great to hear tbh, you really get the feeling in EA cricket games and such that there's little to no interest/passion in the games. In fact cricket 2007 was made by the Canadian office, so...

World of Outlaws is on shelves at BigW but not anywhere else (I think?) - it's big in Mid-West USA, not really so much here.

Yeah, we're proud of the hair :) (Given the way the votes are going, I'm hoping we are equally proud of the beards!)

I will be at the show in October, I'm also Vice President of the Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA) so will be there at Game Connect Aisa Pacific (GCAP) which is being held concurrently with your show on the Gold Coast.

Awsome. Would love to catch up for a beer, if you're willing to hang with the plebs

Where is the GCAP being held?

plebs... please... you'll see me shouting with the best of them in the AFL Members at every game Carlton plays in Melbourne (and some interstate - but WA's just tooo far!)

Sure, closer to the time we'll work something out - GCAP's at the same venue as the retail buyers show.
