I wouldn't get too excited about the figures. What was it that you were trying to prove anyway ?

AFAIU they estimate the figures by using things like Medicare data. It's accurate and close enough to be exact that splitting hairs if they're 100 off the real number isn't worth worrying about.

You're allowed to drive your car into another state and rent a house and get a job without interacting in the government in any way, so they're just making the point that they have no way of collecting that data in a literal sense.

The initial discussion was about Queenslanders leaving because of housing costs. I brought up the figures to say that was incorrect, and Queensland still has the strongest inflow of interstate migration (which has been the case for generations).

To such an accurate number that for the purposes of analysis it's pointless to care otherwise. We're talking +/- a couple of hundred difference between estimated and actual, at best.

Housing costs only matter in a relative sense. Ok, maybe some Queenslanders are leaving because of housing costs. More new Queenslanders are arriving because of housing costs in outside Queensland, though. The net effect of overall housing costs as it effects the whole of Australia makes Queensland get a greater net inflow of people, bloody hell, there's no point talking about anything if you're not going to look at the overall net effect, the point of this discussion.

Part of the reason why AFL is overtaking NRL in Queensland is because it has a net inflow of people from AFL states, therefore being part the discussion as to why this thread exists. Which shouldn't need explaining. Why am I here. Why have I posted several times on this thread.

Because the inflow of people (even if its only 40% or whatever) is still a greater proportionate AFL supporting than the existing Queensland base (say its 20%).

So you're trying to convert the remaining 80%, you need to get 30% of the remaining 80% (or 37.5% total) to AFL.

But if there's a net inflow of people that changes that 20% to 21%, you only need 29% of the remaining population of 79%, which is 36.9% of the remaining NRL fans. The maths becomes easier.

Furthermore you're more likely to get an NRL supporter to be an AFL supporter if they're the kind of person that has moved, because they're in a new environment away from the family/geographic ties that led them to support their NRL team in the first place. Sure, they might go to Titans, Cowboys or Broncos games. But given they're not going to Roosters/whatever games, they may as well go to Suns or Lions games would be the thinking.

I tend to agree with this argument w.r.t. the new environment.
Moving has powerful repercussions.
I even know a workmate who came to Sydney and found the Sydney Swans.

You don't know me, because if you knew me you'd know that I'm extremely happy the way AFL is growing in Queensland, the men, the juniors and especially the women.
The Lions are popular in Queensland because they became AFL premiers - a great boost to the game in Queensland..
The Lions are popular in Australia because they brought down an arrogant outfit that being the Geelong Cats.
With Matt Rowell winning the Brownlow Medal it was the icing on the cake.
Now there is a dual focus in Queensland - will the Lions continue to dominate or will the Suns challenge.

Posters can bring up all the irrelevant garbage that they might because it is indeed irrelevant.
The big numbers point to a great future for QldAFL.

I can confirm that this is happening. I've met several people from Sydney who have moved here over the last five years and although they come with their existing affiliation to a Sydney-based NRL team, they're willing to give the Suns or Lions a chance because they want to 'experience new things' now that they live in Queensland. Going to a Titans or Broncos game doesn't appeal in the same way because they've been a part of the NRL sphere for so long down in Sydney and they are looking for new experiences after making the move north.

There's probably some amount of overlap in actual participants in that League/Touch/Tag total though it's not apparent how much.

The AusPlay latest tables display data about the numbers of adult volunteers in non playing roles (i.e coaches, officials, administrators, team managers) in Queensland which also is of interest:

Because the concept of "overtaking" is not something that can be proven or disproven with a single link that has overarching wisdom, and any sincere discussion would not be asking it, at all. That's just common sense. You asking of one is a "just asking questions" troll.

Nobody is making the claim. It's a topic that's worthwhile a discussion and merits a discussion, as per the post I quoted above. This is an online forum. Discussing topics is literally why this website exists. There have literally been dozens of links to statistics, news articles, discussions that have led to further discussion over the 113 pages. You are very capable of using the search function, like I did to search the word "Ausplay" to provide you with some past statistics posted here.

Being puzzled at... discussing a topic that is interesting to some people (when you've been a member of said forum for years, you clearly understand what it is), and playing dumb about it is just trolling behaviour to me.
