I couldn't care less who the AFL bought it from - it's a waste of money. The #hawkderangementsyndrome is strong in this thread, again.....
Has it got a bowling club attached to a flank ?

You don’t know what literally means. It literally is a dump.
It's the rubbish tip with a layer of dirt on top of it.
But isn't the money going to Hawthorn? It’s cost the game tens of millions.
So you don’t actually know what the AFL have bought it for but you’ve already concluded that it was a waste of money… brilliant.I couldn't care less who the AFL bought it from - it's a waste of money.
Good on the Hawks for making money.
Here he is. Good to see you back on the mainboard now the Hawks have won a couple. So you don’t actually know what the AFL have bought it for but you’ve already concluded that it was a waste of money… brilliant.
Ha, talk about rent free. Here he is. Good to see you back on the mainboard now the Hawks have won a couple.
Well the article lists what they believe it will be used for - all a waste.
The gym needs massive renovations, it is run down and old.Actually surprised the Hawks arent keeping it... the gym generates 600K income plus whatever they can get for the Hawks bit
You're wrong. The AFL sold the whole thing to Mirvac. What Mirvac then decides to do with the asset they hold is up to them.Yep, semantics. The “facts” is just paperwork. The whole deal was done. Mirvac didn’t just buy it, discover they didn’t want it, then decide to give it away to Hawthorn who… just decided to ask for it??
The deal that the AFL did was simple - Hawthorn got the ground and stand for nothing and Mirvac took the rest. Who cares what it said where on the paperwork.
It was a monumental ****-up by the AFL that has cost them huge 20 years down the track.
It was a brilliant deal by and for Hawthorn, nobody is disputing that.
The MCG is literally a swamp by your logic thenIt literally is a dump.

The MCG is literally a swamp by your logic then
Ask the indigenous of the area. They say it was swampland.Except it never was.
Across the other side of the railway lines (parts of Olympic park, and the botanical gardens) were flood plains until the river was straightened and the banks solidified (Swamp isn't really correct), but not as far away from the river as the MCG.
Quick hint for working that out...They built the rail line on solid ground with secure foundations. (I've also see the old maps).
As for the Hawthorn training facility being a tip...dig down 10-20M from the center square on their training grounds...guess what you'll find....It's still a 'refuse storage facility'.
Ask the indigenous of the area. They say it was swampland.
And what's your point regarding it being a former tip? Does it being built where a tip was in any way impact the quality of the facility? Does it change the fact that it is going to make hawthorn the most well resourced sports club in the country?
Will people go with diggers to dig down 20m to see if they find some sort of buried treasure?
Who needs witches hats when you can use weirdos with metal detectors?Ask the indigenous of the area. They say it was swampland.

Semantics. If Mirvac didn’t want it and it was worth nothing to them, then the AFL could’ve just carved it out of the deal and still got the same amount for the rest.
The AFL gave it away for nothing and have now had to spend over $10m to get it back - I suspect mainly because they’re petrified of “the optics” of other sports being played there.
It’s an enormous blunder.
Jesus disrespect is phenomenal here, you actually think the umpires aren’t athletes? To spend that sort of coin on part time endurance 'athletes' seems wild to me.
