If you have 100 picks in a row and your list manager picks 100 shit players, you still have a shit list of 100 players.

When oh when will they figure out that giving picks is only 1/2 the battle. Making them count is just as important.

So in the meantime, they want to gut and handicap the game even further.

But im sure Gil still gets his ripper cheque every 2 weeks o_O

GO Catters

That is a good theory

What about the theory that they do in fact select the best talent but thier systems waste them, when if better development was in place, the whole sport would benefit

Its like sending all the VCE top performer to the worst universities. Thered be hell to pay if that happened

Gee these monkeys have equalised the competition, and ended up with shit footy (their call) and they cant even for a minute find a causal link?

Don't agree with the bolded. Education is largely about the student. The cream would find a way in that instance.

Unlike in AFL where you are much more dependant on the environment around you.

Jesus, as if losing a grand final isn't distressing enough - now they've also got to cope with their first draft pick not until at least 26th !! Probably closer to 30th by the time all the compo picks are included.

Just make the team getting the free agency player compensate the team losing him with draft points aligned with his new contract. Simple.

"redress the issue of lower teams only having one pick in the top 18-20 selections"

o_O, Sorry, but when did everybody agree that giving every team one pick in the first round was an issue? It is the definition of fair.

What on earth is going on at the AFL? Or maybe I should ask what do Carlton and the Gold Coast have on Gil? And how can West Coast get it so we can avoid having to travel to Tas ever again!

Either way I have a point

Maybe because they understand finally how much free agency has destroyed equalization. Richmond on the back of a flag are about to pick up one of the best forwards in the comp for peanuts and dickheads want to complain about the team that's won 2 games for the year getting an extra draft pick who may or may not make it?

You can go around and ask anyone from any club, Pick 19 or Lynch for 5 years on 700k and every single one of them will pick Lynch. Head in the sand type thinking, get some real perspective on things.
He has a point. Lynch to Richmond??!! Come on. Equalisation lol. This was ALWAYS going to happen with free agency !

Isn’t Richmond winning a flag an argument that equalisation is happening

Really people are saying we need to do dot dot dot because there’s a problem with equalisation but they haven’t made a case that equalisation isn’t happening

There’s plenty of arguments to say it is

So basically they want to encourage tanking...

The system is fair as it is.

Leave the game alone Gill. You don't know what your doing!

Its like he has a big wheel of ways to change the game and whatever it lands on he suggests to the public.

Here’s an analogy

The goal square is about to be increased to 18m. If it has no effect. Ie you can’t provide evidence it worked. Not only do you admit you were wrong and revert. You then stridently say it would have worked if it became 30m. And demand that should happen

To be honest I don’t care. Good on Richmond. It’s great management they can even afford to pay him more then a pack of twisities and a book of Cole’s fuel vouchers. But let’s not pretend that that is a torch to hold up to equalisation! Come now.

Doesn’t address the poaching of young contracted players in bottom teams at all.
Clubs are able to address this themselves with a good coach and decent off-field leadership... look at Brisbane.

Terrible idea. All it would do is make about 6-7 sides at any one time do what Carlton are currently doing because it becomes too easy to rebuild by becoming a basket case and too hard for the mid level sides.

If they want to change something give all non finals sides a PP at the end of the second round.
Bottom side ends up with picks
1,19,37,47,65
Top side
18,36,64
That lets a club who is run well recruit twice as well as the top sides.

Maybe also an end of round pp for any side who hasn't played finals in 4 years continuing until they make finals and after 8 years maybe that's pp gets moved to 11 after all non finals sides picks.

The system they are suggesting doesn't help bottom sides as much as it destroys top sides. If you are run well you should be able to be successful. They will just create a lucky dip doing what the are suggesting

"GM has mentioned the EPL had lost television rights revenue in the last deal, in making the argument to CEOs that the poor teams could drag down the financial health of the competition."

Is Gill stupid or does he think other people are stupid?
Gill is stupid. Has no idea about cause, effect, and correlation.

Balderdash. Environment plays a huge role. In year 8 I was at a bog standard school getting As - reflecting the standard the school expected it's pupils to achieve. In year 9 I moved to a selective school and was getting Cs.

Just give everyone 2 straight picks in the first round.

You don't want these weird cut offs where fans aren't sure if they wanna make finals.

Id have Three or Four different draft orders, each with a slight advantage to the lower 6 teams but in different forms so you dont know which place in the bottom six is the best to finish in any one year

Which one gets put in place is done by lottery AFTER the season is over and the clubs already finishing order

I quite specifically only mentioned this applied for the absolute top end of students as it is much harder to judge the other groups. Would you consider yourself to be part of that group?

In any event, one anecdotal reference doesn't make a case. I see this on a large scale and the students that want to get the best out of themselves are able to do that wherever they go. Also grades are not a sufficient metric on their own to judge.

This also only really applies in probably the last decade (maybe 15) years as information has become far more easy to acquire.

Make no mistake, the cream stands out wherever it goes.

It’s a problem with people at top. They think everything they do is being clever, sort of thing only ceos can do and rest are dumb enough mot to see it.

Every club winning 11 games isn't going to make for a great year.

The draft is supposed to give every club a chance at a flag about every 18 years... But they never leave it alone that long to see.

It's always changing something to try and make it fairer and it only gets worse.
