Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

The head of the AFL says it is fine to niggle so it is part of the game.
Players tagged retaliate and this costs the team in the long run.
Ablett's comments ring true

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Not a bad effort from the boys. Put the cue in the rack in the last and let the margin come down from what looked like a 60+ point win

Good to get through conditions like that without any major injuries.

The Selwood slap might cause him to miss a few not sure what his carry over point are like.

Tommy another good effort from the big fella to get 6 goals from a key forward in conditions like that was the difference in the end

All the young guys played well Guthrie was good under pressure in the backline, Poodle did a good job on Black when the game was there to be won, Bundy was in everything looks to be going better than last year, Stringer looked good in his first full game did some really nice things, Motlop a bit quieter than his last few but still was able to get a goal.

Onto Melbourne next week

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

The way we finished that game off really ruined a good display. And we will probably lose Selwood to suspension to top it off.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Thought he hit Raines in the chest... But I could be wrong...

Also what to do with Stevie J? Gave away 2 free goals to Brisbane.. really undisciplined at the moment...

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Can someone who saw the game let me know where Stokes is at - not so much the injury but whether on today's evidence he should still be in our top 22? I'm close to calling time on Matthew - IMHO, the game (And our kids) have gone past him...

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

****ing hell those commentators were bad.

Good game by the Cats up until the last.

Johnson is really starting to shit me.

Bundy doesn't stop going in hard.

Hawk loves the wet.

TV commentators are terrible.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Selwood's hit was with very very little force... not sure how the MRP panel works, but he shouldn't get suspended for that surely, barely anything in it.

Raines hit on Selwood in the 1st half wasn't that bad either IMO, was going for the ball.

On the game though, annoying last quarter, Brisbane only started to play well when it didn't matter and we put the cue in the rack.

Johnson was very poor again, and those last 2 free kicks for goal were stupid. Needs to be spoken to now IMO.

HAWKINS!

BUNDY!

The other kids were solid, and the older guys are finding form... lots to like!

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Selwood 1 week max. Mainly due to prior record. Don't think there was anything in it tbh.

If you didn't see the game you'd swear Raines didn't even hit him back listening to the commentators. God they were shit.

Lynch and Roos should never be allowed to call a Lions game ever again. Even when we were 60+ up they were going on about how it was just luck that had us in that position not skill or hard work

I think his time has come to be honest. It will get harder and harder for him to get a gig, Motlop, Christensen and now Stringer are showing that they can deliver. We still have Kelly, Varcoe, Wojo to come back too. Not to mention Menzel. That said he hasn't been riding solo in the passengers only carriage.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Motlop looked buggered after half time. Stokes will get plenty of games this year due to a lot of the young guys needing breaks.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Nothing in the Selwood hit.Raines will get 4-6 for his combined incidents.

Great game from Hawkins.Even better about the win was that Selwood and Bartel wouldn't have been in our best, but a lot of the young players [i.e Bundy,Poodle] stood up.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Time to send SJ a message, drop him next week and allow Brown to play up forward as third tall and maybe Wojo for Stokes.

chapman last week....now its SJ's turn.

Absolutely zero chance he will play VFL.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Loved Hawkins game and Bundy. Johnson needs to play a couple in the VFL and just get back to basics. He was terrible.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

Selwood's wasn't a hard hit but he's going to have carryover points + bad record (is that an extra 10 % or 20 %) from the guerra thing last year so he'll go, hopefully it's 2 at worst and we get him back for the Collingwood game.

Other than that really happy.

Hawkins BOG and awesome, great job by Poodle to limit Black's influence and get 20 himself, Chappy much better (albeit in conditions that suit him but still quite pleasing), Bundy really stepping up as a key midfielder like we need him to, Motlop did some good things and Stringer shows real potential. Thanks to West for rucking all night in that too.

Hopefully no serious injuries and move on to next week.

I'm sick of undisciplined acts that cost our team,SJ is super talented but silly.

Sometimes I just shake my head in disbelief.

SJ will not play in the VFL. He gave away 3 free kicks, two of them dumb. He was not "terrible". While stats are by no means the full story they aren't without some meaning. SJ had 21 disposals at 81% disposal efficiency. He's playing below par but not deserving of some of the uninformed crap directed at him.

Really pleased with the performance. Just so solid in the wet. Like the SCG game last year.

My second fave player Stokesy is in poor form and under the same pressure as Byrnes to make the team but it's early days so we'll see.

It's easy to see why Stringer was rushed in to replace Kelly. Didn't do heaps, but shows a real intent to get involved and tackle hard.

Want to pump up Bundy but I'm starting to get worried other teams will catch on as to how bloody good he is.

Well done Tomahawk too.

'AFL Round 5 - Geelong defeats Brisbane by 38 points'

Heyn the same margin we won last year's Premiership by!! Carn, change the thread title! I checked in here and thought we were still playing!

On the bright side - Selwood will get a well-earned rest for a bit. He's been flat-chat this year so far!

Just wait until Hawkins puts in a bad one.

You will think that all the full moons had come at once.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Geelong v Brisbane, Gabba, 7:40PM Saturday 28 April

So why is Johnson in the back half? Instructions, license to play anywhere?. Is is coaching expectations?, is it becuase he is worried when we are not playing well and feels that he has to contribute everywhere eg 2008 GF.
If it is a problem why doesn't the Coach do domething?
Personally prefer him in the forward half, midfield.
But if he is continuing to do it then possibly the game plan.
Worried about Selwood even if he gets off, shouldn't be engaging in that sort of play.
