Aker Gone!!

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Resting won't make him any quicker or add any distance to his kicks. Time to face reality. One season too many.

He was found out tonight against a very quick and young side in Essendon, but I genuinely believe he can play a role in finals. Forward pocket type role, those little crumbing goals or a left footed pass whilst tucked into the boundary is what his role is now, he still has the skills even though the pace is gone. His experience in finals cant be under estimated either.

There was a moment in the forward line when aker was a clear 5 metres in front of his man chasing the ball to the boundary. His man beat him to the ball and had a good 1-2 metres on aker and aker was asking for deliberate out of bounds.

Right then i thought it was over for him. Just doesn't have the pace to play AFL footy anymore. There is nothing wrong with his footy smarts or skill but the lack of pace is killing him and with a side like ours we need all the pace we can get.

..... but (Aker) just looks too slow.

Aker's hamstring is obviously playing up. The last few weeks he has played in the same fashion as he has previously when the hammy was troubling him. Notice how he tended to hover around the packs and the marking contests rather than bearing down on them and creating the play?

He obviously needs a rest, and quite frankly he deserves one after talking shit to the club about his article being doctored. Very disappointing.

Do you guys think Aker will get suspended by the club?

IMO his actions were similar to what Shaw and Didak did in '08... obviously the incidents are very different but the aftermath is essentially the same.

Aker like Shaw and Didak lied to both the playing group and club officials who publicly came out in defense of him only to find out they had been lied to and the stance they had taken now makes them look rather silly.

and just as it happened at Brisbane, at what point do his very public negatives outweigh what he brings to the team? You'd be better off bringing in a kid IMO.

Hold up a second mate. He offered to play on for peanuts when he didn't even need to. That in my opinion shows a great deal of commitment to the team.

Sorry mate but at this moment, no-one here gives a shit.

Can I just add. His last quarter he had a hand in 4 goals, Hopefully he can start the same next week the way he finished this week.

Aker was far from our worst tonight. He didn't get loads of touches, but he barely wasted a single one. Unlike many others. (Higgins, Cooney, Boyd I'm looking at you)

Exactly! He spent time in the rooms at quarter-time. Give him a spell for a while.

You blokes are pulling my leg right? There is a long list of blokes that should be headed down to morris street before Akermanis, he was close to the only bloke on our side that could hit a target tonight.

- Higgins is obviously injured (not hit fault i know but i'd rather a fit acker than a half baked higgo)
- stack was out of his depth tonight
- addison is about 2 paces too slow for afl footy and his disposal hurts us
- and as much as it pains me to say, Lindsay Gilbee is due for a spell, if the bloke can't hit a target he really is no good to us.

He's like Eagleton at the moment. When he is in, we don't want him. But i bet if we drop him then people will be saying 'we needed someone like Aker who has the class and finishing skills'

There were about 16 other blokes kicking it much worse than him tonight, Harbrow, Cooney, Boyd and Higgins included.

I noticed the same. It's sad to see such a clever player know what he wants to do, but just be too slow to do it anymore. Sorry Aker..

1 Thing i liked was Grant's outside of the boot kicks. Nearly kicked a goal in the second quarter and set up a player with another one. I kept yelling out REBONA! lol. He really is turning into a good player. One of the few positives.

Shame both hill and addision were down in their 50th games.

Agree about Stack tonight and Addison was poor. Gilbee was the only bloke who looked like hurting the opposition but wasn't a great game by any means.

As for Higgins, I'm sick of people making excuses for players. Just because someone plays shit, doesn't mean they are injured. Perhaps Higgins isn't right but he had a week off and was brought back in this week. As far as I'm concerned he's fit....but obviously not fit enough to put in his best effort.

I agree with you, to a degree, but Gilbee's main role in the team is as a defensive rebounder, he doesn't do the inside work that players like boyd, coons and kosta do so it hurts us more that he is not hitting targets. I wouldn't be far of listing your man in with those three players tonight either.

Clearly he still has the smarts but it has got to the point where his first thought as soon as he gets the ball is to dispose of it quickly. Gone is his ability to run and carry and finish his work with a long goal. Sad but it catches up with everyone eventually.

I've said it before but I don't think we can carry Aker and Johnno in the same team. Aker's only chance is if Johnno remains injured...and no-one hopes for that. I frear Aker's career may end in tears both on-field and off it.

I remember a time when gilbee couldn't miss from 50m out? i've seen him spray too many this year. It hurts us, especially when his partner in crime eagleton is out.

and well if higgins is fit then aker is further ahead of him than I have given him credit for, might be better as an apprentice butcher on tonights showing.

I don't think he was as bad as you make out but he probably misses more goals nowadays I agree. Cooney was more disappointing tonight...one of the more ineffective performances I've seen from him. He turned it over repeatedly.

Yeah Cooney's field kicking was disgusting but he still did a heap of inside work to give us first use. unfortunately that doesn't stand out as much as the clangers did.

As far as I'm concerned the embarassment he has caused the club over the last week is unforgiveable.

He's too much of a liability, his form is terrible and he's looking old and slow. I wouldn't be fussed if he retired now and they upgraded a rookie.

Just a pity he could never keep his mouth shut.

Is in danger of getting dropped I think. Put in an absolute shocker tonight, after Higgins was our biggest passenger.

Two Points:

1) agree he will be a good player. He is doing his part.
2) I don't like the outside of the boot kicks. The fact he had to do it 3 times obviously means he can't kick on his left, and at times it was costly.

On the thread, agree he is gone. Too slow. Has probably lost the playing group to now with events of the past couple of days.
