So your hatred for Wanganeen's percieved diving is greater than Acker's loud mouth and rude head. Wanganeen when fit was far more than a handy player. Big game player too. His effort in the last quarter of the 2004 preliminary final won us the game and he kicked a lazy 4 in the Grand Final. All at the tail end of his career. Acker was a very good player in a great team who did some freakish things on a football field and was his own number one fan. Wanganeen is an unassuming champion of the game who was probably better in every facet of the game barring pace, left foot kick and shameless self promotion.

Back pocket v champion on baller thread. (Yes I know Aker played a little back pocket too).

PS - Aker kicked a lazy 5 in a grand final and probably did everything better than Wanganeen. I'm also not a supporter of either club and therefore can analyse the players without bias.

And? Wanganeen kicked 4 in a Grand Final, and he's not a natural forward. I'm not a supporter of either club, and without bias, I'm leaning towards Wanganeen.

You like Akermanis more, but you are under the impression that it isn't reasonable for an opinion to differ from your own - Which is, I suppose, the unofficial BigFooty code of conduct.

Just calm down - You've made your point, and it is okay for people to disagree with you.

Firstly, I mentioned Akers 5 in a GF in response to someone who mentioned Wangas 4 in a GF as a claim to fame. Perhaps read all posts before you contribute. Aker has rarely been a forward either.

Secondly, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. My disdain for PapaG's posts relates to the fact that he thinks I am basing my argument on hatred for Wanganeen. Certainly not correct, I just don't think he was all that outstanding as a footballer and not in Akers league.

Therefore, as you say this is a forum and on this occassion two posters disagreed. I have no problem with that. However, where the hell was your need to intervene?

In your opinion how does Crawford rate against these 2?

LOL. Touche.

Comfortably better than Wanganeen and whilst less brilliant than Aker, a better player than him overall aswell.

I classify him somewhere near (but not quite with) Robert Harvey in terms of being one of the most consistent, year in year out, top line players who perhaps lack the brilliance or game breaking ability of others, but just keep producing through massive amounts of hard work and will to succeed. On a par with Ben Cousins.

Feel free to disagree.:thumbsu:

Was comfortable with this comparison as they are relatively "like" player in terms of size at least, all have brownlows and all have had long careers. But where you say Wanganeen went missing in the middle years mainly through injury, you could also say the same about Crawf over the last 5 or so years. Players like Hodge, Mitchell and now an increasing band of youngsters have overtaken him to a point where he is not considered in your best 5 players. Finals are another area where he is deficient.

I would probably rate Crawford higher than Acker to tell you the truth though. As oppossed to his personality, Crawford is actually a hard running, talented, no nonsense footballer. Acker can be over rated due to his flashiness. Both Crawford and Wanganeen have more heart than Acker.

Fair enough.

However, Crawf hasn't gone missing over the last 5 years. It is well documented that he had a significant downer in 2000 after his Brownlow year but has since had another r-up (with Wanganeen & Cousins I believe) in 2003 and another 3rd. He did miss a large part of a season through injury a year or so ago but through last year and this year is playing back to a fantastic level again, when many others his age are falling away.

In fact, you say he isn't in our top 5, but the Big Footy voting has him on the leader board (FWIW) with many posters having him in the votes again in this yet to be complete round.
