Seeing that Draft Camp starts this week, I thought I'd take the liberty of making a thread where we can post all comments/results/thoughts about the new crop of kids coming through.

If anybody actually goes down to watch, we'd love some personal insight.

Re: All things Draft Camp

Some of the heights, speed and agility testing will be important.

I remember everyone though NicNat would be too short to be a ruckman, then at draft camp he tested as 202cm and he was then taken pick 2.

Jack Watts' speed at draft camp tested as the 2nd fastest non-indigenous player over 20m ever, also tested well in agility and leap. That must been one of the factors that would have pushed him over the edge to pick 1.

This year i'm curious about Jack Darling- his speed, but especially his height. If he tests at 189cm, he will be drafted pick 10-20, if he tests 193cm, he could be drafted as high as pick 4.

A lot of people will also be curious of Watson's speed. Similar to worries of Hurley's speed pre-draft camp.

Re: All things Draft Camp

I believe heights and stats (eg: hand span, skin folds etc...) are tomorrow. Will be interesting also to see the new test (developed by Lloyd) as well as any adjustments to the kicking test from last year. The 20m sprint has always been my favourite - fwiw Hurley posted just a fraction of 3 seconds, but glad Essendon overlooked his "speed problems" :D

Re: All things Draft Camp

Saw a good movie the other day called the Blindside - amazing true story about an NFL player Michael Oher. His stats from the NFL Draft combine were 5.34s for the 40yd dash (3.03s for the 20yd split); Vertical Jump - 30.5 inches (77.47cm); BP - 21 reps (225lb or 102kg!!). Not overly impressive until I realised this guy is 193cm and 140kg. They also have an exercise called the 3 cone drill - I wonder if NADA know this :D:thumbsu:

Unfortunately Jack won't be participating in any of the physical testing, on doctor's orders. Got his head smashed in, unprovoked, by a bunch of mauri guys a few weeks back

They'll test his height but he obviously won't be tested on 20m sprints, repeat sprints, vertical leap and agility - all of which would have a big bearing on his draft rating.

Re: All things Draft Camp

Shame about Darling, was very interested to see what he'd get in the sprints/vertical leap tests. Interested to see his height though, it will be very interesting if he is 192-193 cm.

Interested in the sprint times of Smith, Polec, Heppell, Atley.

Also very interested in Day's results.

Re: All things Draft Camp

Jack Darling will be at Draft Camp doing all the tests.

http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2010/09/27/darling-back-after-fractured-skull/

"After being ordered to complete rest for nearly three weeks, Darling was given the all clear to resume training earlier this month, and will take his place amongst the elite prospects in the AFL’s draft HQ this week.

And while the West Perth forward has suffered slight dizzy spells during his build-up to the camp, he also expected his competitive streak to kick in.

“There are a few butterflies, but I am looking forward to challenging myself and seeing how I compare with the other guys my age in the same position of me,” Darling said.

“I had to sit out for two and half weeks doing nothing, and have been training since the 12th."

Re: All things Draft Camp

CHance of Darling slipping down to Carlton? Also why is it called the Draft Combine this year, it sounds terrible.

Re: All things Draft Camp

thought they were going to have a video at 4.30 on the afl website? can't find it anywhere?

5:30 on the Live AFL Channel.

I am going to Record It:thumbsu: because I am not sure if they will put the Replay up to watch later

So did I. I clicked on it on the AFL website -> http://www.afl.com.au/development/n...tcombine/totalaccess/tabid/16666/Default.aspx

and instead of saying 4.30 like it said this morning and days ago, it now says:
Visit AFL.com.au from 6pm each day from 28 September to 1 October to watch Total Access and see how this year's leading draft picks are shaping up.

I guess they were running late so they changed it...

Re: All things Draft Camp

Anyone know what the guys are doing at the camp today? Any physical testing?
