Absolutely there is a point where the price is too high. Cats fans seem to think we'll be willing to give up our first two this year (or even first 3) plus first next year. Think we'll do it at any cost. If we can get two top 10 picks somehow (god knows how), we should keep the picks, unless we get a reasonable pick back with Kelly (top 20).
Reckon Demons would even go for that swap? I can't see it.
Mind you . If Geelongs price is to high we can use the picks requested for say pick 5. Then request Geelongs 1st pick in return or get nothing by going via the draft

I don't know why people think that the draft is any kind of realistic possibility for where the Kelly saga could end up. When was the last time that that hapenned? Geelong will definately trade him. Either to us, or if he cracks and shows weakness to them he might end up at Freo.

If he hasn't been traded by the last day i would expect the AFL will speak to both clubs, especially Geelong, and inquire about where the deal is at and tell them it is non - negotiable that Kelly gets traded to a club he will accept.

I heard today that Kelly wont even meet with Freo to discuss a deal. I reckon that means he wants nothing to do with them and that puts us right in the box seat. I imagine we'll be trying to combine current and future picks for a higher pick and then try to off load that to the cats. For example. 24 and 33 for Pick 11. Or future first and 33 for 11. And then 11 and 14 for Kelly and a future 2nd. And if worse comes to worst we'd offer 14 plus next years first plus 33 for him.

Don’t think anyone is saying it’s likely but Geelong aren’t taking that chance. If we manage to get a pick before Freos then Geelong have no choice and will get nothing for him, purely from the threat of us drafting him, whether it would get to that point or not is irrelevant. Think we just need to line up a possible trade to Sydney or Adelaide and that’ll be the end of it.. the pick trade won’t even have to go through, Geelong will know they’re cooked.

It's completely undignified and embarassing to Freo that are continuing to pursue a player who won't even meet with them. And engage in mock negotiations with his club about how any top ten picks you will give them for a player who has totally rejected you. If a player won't even meet with you, especially by this stage of the year, then you would forget about him and move on with your business.

I hope you are kidding.

Two first rounders and an early second for TK? That's madness for a 25 year old who plays as untagged 3rd or 4th mid behind a mix of Danger, Ablett, Selwood, Duncan etc.

For that price I'd rather he went to Freo...
and I detest everything about that skidmark club.

Mate I’d appreciate if you didn’t criticise my totally absurd and unviable trade suggestions.

Not on TK, but the draft - this kid ISAIAH
BUTTERS - looks the goods. Is he tied to Freo at all? I seem to remember hearing something along these lines. I am currently watching the colts GF, and he is special.

Ya. 2020 draft if I recall.

Hey boys, long time lurker but now arrogantly posting for the first time.

my understanding of the drafts was that you can nominate your contract terms and salary in the pre season draft but not in the national draft - hence even Sam Walsh was originally tied to the normal rookie deal, and when Tom Boyd was lured to the dogs his first season was still on the rookie wage. I can’t see Tim allowing this to happen as he’s clearly looking to set his family up for life and there’s no way he lasts to us in the pre season draft. #FreeTim

I assume we will be speaking to swans. They may be interested in splitting 5 to help them do the daniher deal.

Swans 5 + 26
Eagles 14 and future first + 33

Offer Geelong pick 5, if they don't accept, take Kelly in draft at 5.

We have 24 + 26 + 64 in the draft

Swans have two first rounders to use in daniher deal and have more currency for papley trade
We then tell geelong its pick 5 + 26 for kelly + 17

If they dont like it we can get him in the draft .

Gives us 17 24 for the draft

Honestly I'd rather keep the picks than pay way overs for TK. Geelong are a pack of A$$holes and I'd rather not give them the satisfaction. I'd like to get one of Sharp, Robertson or Rivers in the door.

This simply doesn't make sense.

Please put a value on a flag and tell me that 14+18+24 is paying too much for a premiership.

Tim Kelly is a known quantity. He will be one of our best players for the next 5 years. Addition of Tim Kelly would mean our mid field is extremely damaging and has added depth.

Let's not die on a hill squabbling over draft pics when our window is wide open and we are 2nd favourites for next years flag.

If we have to pay overs, pay it.

Congrats on the first post
The rookie wage thing is only when you enter the afl for the first time .

Luke ball went to the national draft 10 years ago with a massive contract so no one picked him until 28 .

Kelly would do the same if it came to it but i doubt . It would make us look bad

I doubt it would come to this .

This 3 firsts is probably a usual first asking price at the start of these trade periods for a high quality player but geelong have decided to play it out in the media for some reason .

No one is to say we havent offered pick 14 + future 2nd as our first offer .

Low ball vs high ball .

A fair trade will get done .

They don't really think we can or would give them what they are asking for. Bizarre as it is, i think that Geelong are as motivated by not wanting us to have Kelly, because they don't want to strengthen a rival top side and that might cost them the flag they think they can win in the next 2 years, as they are by getting a good trade outcome for themselves. This is all about running the clock down and making belligerant public statements in order to see if they can bully and scare Kelly into accepting Freo instead.

Also. **** Geelong.

How is it that Geelong think they hold all the cards with Kelly. If he walks with no deal done and goes to the draft they get nothing, he is only going to end up back in Perth either way.

If i was in Freo's shoes i would nor even entertain offering high picks for a guy who does not want to be there, i would sit back and wait and see if you could convince him to come if he goes to the draft, that is basically a free hit for them, whilst keeping high picks.

I'm not disagreeing with you. A trade will be done.

From what I read this morning it sounds like the two clubs are slowly coming together on what a trade should look like.

My response was simply that there is no such thing as 'overs' in this trade. No matter what we pay, we significantly strengthen our premiership chances for 2020 onwards. Any club would be clicking their heels at the idea of Tim Kelly wanting to play for their club.

Throw in that we lost two important games (Richmond and Collingwood) because our midfield got overwhelmed in contested ball and this is trade is the stars aligning perfectly for us.

Every other club is watching this trade very carefully and would be very concerned of a West Coast outfit that boasts Tim Kelly.

We will pay a price, we need to accept that. We need to remind ourselves of the bigger picture here.

Collingwood second half of 2019 considered a bid by GC for Treloar pick 1 just after he signed a four year extension to 2025 .

Treloar refused to entertain the trade but at least GC are trying to get some revenge so watch out for other options .
