Does that mean someone is off to the Bombers? don't see how we get 37 otherwise.

Essentially pick 1 and some change...

I think the point value is pointless, it only matters if you got a Academy Player/Father Son.

If someone offered you.

Pick 14, 16, 24 and 33

for

Pick 1,47 and 57?

Would you take it? I would say majority would knock this back.

So

- Kelly was never going to Fremantle
- uncontracted
- desire to return home for obvious reasons

And yet we traded for him within the first couple of days in a 10 day trade period and gave Geelong absolutely everything we could possibly give excluding players.

Wow.

All these joke about folding, but we actually did it.
For all the talk of reaming them at the trade table, I think you benefit long term from being fair traders. I think what we gave is fair.

If Geelong gave back 36 then fair enough. But us not demanding that pick has made us look weak. It was the least Geelong could do.

Traded the farm but we got a player who was voted by his peers as the 2nd most valuable player this year.

Rnd 1 with Natters, Yeo, Shuey and Kelly in the middle, OOF.

Lets hope we get a James Worpel type with pick 57..

The funny thing is that if Brander doesn't get to where we hope for him to be then the best course of action in that draft may have been Allen with our first, then Kelly, then Ryan.

Can you imagine the melts of that draft night if that was how we went? It is exactly what all the preemptive melts were focused around if I remember correctly (picking Allen with our first and then 'going too early' on Kelly and Ryan)

Some people just want an excuse to complain (and yes, this board would be pretty lame without any contrasting opinions) but the actual list managers are the only ones that have to cop the heat for opinions and decisions seen as wrong either long term or short term, both at the same time.

Lol.

Geelong board also think they got bent over, so what does that tell you?

Our drafting is shit, Ainsworth is no good. O’Neill is no good. Foley invisible. Oh but also why oh why did we have to pass on the next Ainsworth, Foley or O’Neill?

Picks are picks. You use them to acquire talent that you hope will come within 100 miles of Tim Kelly’s talent.

Melters: This club has no idea how to draft. Ainsworth? We’ve seen nothing from O’Neill or Foley. Pathetic drafting.

Also melters: WHY DID WE HAVE TO INCLUDE PICK 33?!?!!!!!!!

Which part is hard to understand? I know it's easy to take easy pot shots and all..

Nobody (obviously me) is saying we are guaranteed to get a gun in that range. But there is still plenty of valuable young players we could've had access to had we not completely wilted and bent over in every way possible for Geelong.

We basically have NO presence in this draft now. Any highly rated sliders between 20-50 are now out of our range.

It couldn't have hurt to hedge our bets each way rather than put all our chips on 6 years of Kelly's service.

I'm happy we got Kelly. I'm not happy we paid that much when we had so many reasons to play hard ball and still make the deal happen.

They wanted 2 first rounders. We gave them that, AND 2 2nd rounders as well. Was that necessary in making the trade happen? Doubtful.

That's a very fair assessment.

The real targets of our ire should be those in charge of our rookie list the last 3-4 years. How Tim Kelly, Liam ryan and Marlion Pickett weren't on our rookie list before they went in their respective drafts is nothing short of professional negligence.

I understand there were personal issues around all 3 but their level of talent was undeniable. The rookie list should be used on players such as those. Not players like Tom ******* Gorter...

Bennell?

All this ****ing blind reporting of us giving pick 37 on Trade Radio and not even blinking. USE YOUR CRITICAL FACULTIES AND AT LEAST MENTION THERE'S SOMETHING OF INTRIGUE THERE YOU GITS.

ok, I'm well confused...so we've traded something or someone to Essendon, who have in turn sent on pick 37 to Geelong as part of this deal?!
