Going to be shot down by the usual people, but given that a lot of clubs are spending a lot of money going overseas for high altitude and high performance training, maybe the league should consider building one of its own for the use of all clubs.

Yes, I know some clubs can do it, but this would be a way to stop some of that massive spending that clubs are doing that can be better utilised in other areas.

Hell you could build it on NSW even up there in the Blue Mountains, or if the height isnt a requirement, you could build it in Adelaide, nice and central for all teams.

And given it would be almost unique to Australian sport - Im not sure if the AIS has this capacity - government funding might be available if you can convince them you can partner with the AIS or Olympic athletic bodies or something.

I'll step up as one of the usual people.....

Unless it actually is at altitude, it would be way too expensive. You'd need to build a massive airtight indoor facility with the ability to control oxygen levels. There isn't the demand from other elite athletes in this country to be able to get a decent return on it, and it's unlikely you'd attract many elite athletes from overseas.

The other thing is that teams don't just do it for the altitude, they do it for the team building. It's still questionable whether a couple of weeks at altitude has any effect on endurance, but clubs that do it would see worth in taking the whole squad overseas to do some bonding. Clubs may still choose go go overseas even if the facility was available onshore.

Altitude training is a technique thought to give advantage over opposition so why share and lose your advantage? Clubs would go out trying to find another way to gain an advantage and a whole lot of money would be wasted.
