....er yeah.........
Just lamenting that we have a tonne of forwards and 3 key defenders.....but you already knew that

Rutten, Bock, Young, Stevens, Davis, Talia, Sellar (if needed) and SMACK are all players who either do play or can play in key position defensive posts this year (I haven't included all the new draftees because body wise they're probably not up to it). It's never fun to lose one of your best youngsters to injury but to say we have no depth in key defensive posts is inaccurate. On top of this an added bonus with a lot of the young key position players we have coming through is their versatility in being able to play at both ends of the ground.

Has anyone with their finger on the pulse heard if Andy has had his surgery yet? I would really like to know if the surgeon thought it was a really good repair:thumbsu:, or if his ACL was really shattered and difficult to repair:eek::(. All the Best Otto for a speedy recovery.

Spewin, for him and the club, we just cant take a trick.

It's a dead certain warning sign in the stadium debate. Andy Otten (AO) does a knee the day the Adelaide Oval (AO) redevelopment is announced....

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Be strong, Andy. We are all wishing you well. There will be someone to cover your absence, but you will be back better than ever in 2011.

To be honest I was only paying attention to Otten this season because I put him in my Supercoach team, but because I did I started watching him closely in almost every Adelaide match. I quickly became extremely impressed by how he plays, he demonstrated a lot of composure, some good decision making and above average disposal, and was a very useful link player for the Crows coming out of defence. Very bad luck for a kid I thought was really starting to show some potential, but I am absolutely looking forward to watching him again in 2011! :thumbsu:

And he should get a nice discount for missing 2010. lock him in for 2011

We need our defenders to step up further in future finals (esp against COLL). I thought Ben Rutten played one of the worst games of his career in the semi. Otten must be suffering badly from the mark that was taken away him and the knee (I assume its his left knee since left knees get done 80% of the time). Top 4 is a chance next season especially with our great draw but we have to win the close games to have a real shot at the whole thing. If we can't finish top 4 next year will be a failure just like 2007.

1 bad judgment error, and one that often gets overlooked by umpires anyway. A few mins before that he left his man, sprinted 40m to lay a last second spoil which might have been match winning if Anthony had not kicked the last goal. Rutten gave him an absolute bath all night. Wash your mouth out!

Yeah and I seem to recall him even beating Davis once or twice when the inevitable mismatch occurred- Neon Leon Davis a speedy midget! and Im not talking in a marking contest either.

Craigy came out and said yesterday that Otten was being penciled for a greater midfield role in 2010 which suggests that regardlessof injury the club was already planning to identify another player to play the 2009 Otten role

I don't count the third tall down back as a key position ( is it just me?), but I agree with the above sentiments.

There are also a couple of rookies in Chris Schmidt and Ricky Henderson who would be keen to be given an opportunity. With Martin we have two long term injuries now so either or both could be upgraded if form permits.

Terrible news for a young bloke.
Hope he recovers well.

No I don't either to be honest but I was being nitpicky because he insinuated we have no key position stocks for defence. In terms of Otten's position he plays more of a utility/third tall type roll and we also have them in abundance. I actually wonder if Andy's injury will see Burton rotate further up the ground and off the bench freeing up a Mckernan type to push forward in his place.

Surprise - Jesper in the Sunday Mail this morning has said about Davis, "Leading football people have been impressed... he is considered to be on the brink of making his debut"

Filling some column inches no doubt - blind Freddie could see Davis would be a strong candidate to fill in.

That is interesting. You have a couple of options there at least.
I didnt think Otten was going to be able to play midfeild next year. Im not sure if his endurance was up that high yet:confused:

Any ways, like I already said, hopefully he gets back soon. :thumbsu:

Such a drag. Sheesh, that really is rotten luck.

Thing is, that this weakness makes him much more likely to do his other leg in future. Here's hoping this is put behind him and we all forget he was ever injured in a few years

Obviously it is terrible that we have lost Otten for what looks to be the whole of 2010, after the great 2009 he had.

But Talia looks to be a very capable replacement, I know a lot of people will say it is too soon to play him, but he has the height and strength needed to fill in for Otten. I think Craigy should give him the first 5 or 6 games, and if he succeeds play him for the rest of the season, and if he really fails, then bring in Stevens.
