I can't see Buckley anywhere but Collingwood. They practically worship him (overrated as a player!). I do agree he is quite astute in his commentary though. I see a deal being done with Bucks on big bucks (no pun intended but we all knew he loved himself ;)). Anyway, is there any reason Buckey wouldn't want to stay at the lexus ctr? I know there's more variables to the equation but it just seems the most likely outcome.
IF Collingwood decide to chop Malthouse, then Buckley will replace him. No ifs or buts.

Buckley as an assistant to Malthouse is never going to happen. They're both A-type personalities, it's like having two bulls in the same (small) pen. You're just looking for trouble.

The only question then is what happens if Collingwood do NOT decide to end Malthouse's reign. Buckley is the #1 candidate for all of he jobs, so it all depends upon what he decides to do.

Yeah. That photo with the arm around Cousins?...
Just generally, but yeah that's an example of it.

James Hird strikes me as having a personality suited to coaching, quite astute and a very good one on one commnicator. Seems like he could inspire players with little apparent effort-without the need to raise his voice, just by talking to them. All just impressions of course though. The question is, will James want to leave the comparatively cushy environs of the media? If so, when? I think we'll see him throw his hat into the ring in 1-2 years.

I don't know what it is but Rawlings just doesn't look like a coach to me. Good luck to him and all, but... Can't put my finger on it. Is anyone with me on this?

Must be tough taking over as senior coach, knowing that almost 1/4 of the senior list is older than you!

Slight exaggeration, but there are 4 or 5 of them.

Haha good point! I think that is the flavour of it, seems like he lacks some authority perhaps. Early days of course...

Did anyone see the footage on before the game?

They showed footage of Rawlings, joking around being one of the boys with Kane Johnson. Rawlings then became aware of the camera on him that was filming and he straight away turned around, started stroking his chin with a look of concentration while watching the game that was being played.

Hilarious :D

Quite good articles in The Australian today on Laidley, but was very surprised when they said that NM needed a coach that could engage the media and boost supporters and sponsors, and that since Laidley wasn't that coach perhaps Port and NM could do a straight swap!!!

This assumes (a) that Mark Williams is good at projecting a positive media image and getting supporters on board, and (b) that Port don't need someone who can do that and they have all the supporters and positive media support they need!

Whilst both coaches would have much to offer the other club, seems to me that both clubs could do with an injection of these off-field skills, and call me cynical but I'm just not sure that swapping coaches is gonna do it...

Pretty good stab there DJ, but I'd be certain there'll be a couple wildcard appointments, who will slip under the radar until they hit the interview process.

I cannot see Laidley at Port Adelaide – i don’t see him wanting to go from financial basket case with a very limited football department to another. If he does, it will be basically be another Robert Shaw moment, except for them. I envisage Damien Hardwick taking over from Williams, not even 100% sure Choco will get the boot. Premiership player and a senior assistant premiership coach, good credentials.

I recon MM will stay at Collingwood, if Mark Williams leaves Port, he could end up at Richmond as he said he wants to coach one of the big Victorian clubs and Richmond may not be big on the field but they are off it. Buckley or Longmire at North Melbourne.

Buckley will only coach in Melbourne, so going to Port isn't an option.

Dean Laidley will go to either Fremantle or WCE as a senior assistant coach, in fact i wouldn’t mind seeing the AFC head hunt Dean Laidley as a senior assistant coach for match day strategies.

Please no

He would be far superior to anyone we have at the moment. Criticise his communication with the media, criticise his overall demeanour but don’t criticise his match day coaching as that has won North Melbourne way more games than they should have.

Not necisarrily true, and even if it was, is not really a good reason to get him if he's only better than the current lot. Why not find someone (and there are many, Wallet for one) that are better than him?

Also disagree with this, and hell, watch any of our games against them in the last 5 years for further proof.

Not sure I'd like to see Laids at the AFC, but hell, gotta respect how he went with bugger all resources and a list of reasonably anonymous players. They seemed to defy the odds more than any other team I can think of.

EDIT: Content deleted - but I wanted the last bit to remain. - Vader

Vader is very tolerant of such tactics, and doesn't seem care how such behaviours disrupt on topic discussions - as you have done here, but that doesn't mean it goes unnoticed.

But I think Collingwood will do a deal with Buckley and get him to sit out until the end of the season. At which time MM will step aside and take a year off.

MM to take a year off and then replace Ratten at Carlton after they disappoint again in 2010!

but why would MM do that?

if Collingwood want Buckley, all they have to do is say. then MM can do what he wants, whether that is to coach or not.

Rawlings can afford to be joking around, after swinging a massive axe at selection who can be in any doubt he takes his role seriously.

I feel at this point that I should outline my policy in "Crow-mo type" debates.

First and foremost, my view is that these boards are open for discussion and I prefer to let things run as long as I can without taking action. If at all possible, I'll just let the debate go until the argument runs out of steam and/or one (or both) of the parties just gives up.

Most of these debates devolve into very long and complex arguments, with many of the posts involved being very long indeed. It's more than my time is worth to go through every single post in a debate, trying to work out who is right, who is wrong, who is failing to answer questions, who is misrepresenting the other and/or who is flat out making things up. Seriously, I just don't have the time.

Sooner or later though, I often have to step in and take some moderating action.

If/when the thread devolves into round after round of bickering, with the original topic of conversation being a distant memory, I start deleting posts. Sometimes (but not always) this is accompanied by a PM to the protagonists, instructing them to cool their heels for a while. I will usually prune back to a point where the topic was still present and relevant to the debate. I ALWAYS delete posts from both parties.

Occasionally the thread devolves into personal abuse and/or name calling. If/when that occurs, the infraction stick comes out and these posts are dealt with the same as any other abusive post.

I'm not here to act as a referee as to who is right and who is wrong. My opinion is just that - mine. It holds no more (or less) validity than the opinions of everyone else on this board. I may agree more strongly with one side of the debate than the other, but I don't let my own opinions impinge upon my judgement when moderating other people's posts. Everyone on this board has a right to hold and express their own opinions, provided they do so within the confines of the board rules.
