Review Another One Down, Who’s Next - Freo by 3 Over Geelong

Also one last comment on the game apologies if covered in previous pages but has there ever been a sidestep from a player ie “The Don” Brandon Walker that caused a player (Max Holmes) a Syndimosis ankle injury?

Seriously Brandon changed direction so quickly it caused Holmes to twist his ankle he had get surgery! It’s a move Steph Currey would applaud.

They talk about 'breaking someone's ankle' like that in basketball don't they?

Someone better tell Walker it's not meant to be taken literally though.

Hodge is going to come out and say that Walker had his eyes on the man and did it on purpose to cause injury.

Across the League specialist coaches are going to be brought in, NIDA graduates, and they are going to usher in the era of the Longmuir Look as a KPI in any winning strategy.

If Holmes didn’t break his ankle you would put that on the highlight reel. That was phenomenal.

Cornes highlighted Zac Tuohy vs Travis Colyer in his close checking segment on our final goal scored by Frederick. Saw some Geelong fan post it on the weekend when looking for some reaction about our win on twitter.

Actually looks worse for the other side of the ground. Goes down on his haunches as if he actually made an effort to chase Colyer (who also does well to initially to win a 50/50 with a tap down into the path of Walters.)

Also see that the umpire backing back from the throw in half blocks Bews (i think) or is it Atkins(?) allowing Walters to get a bit of a break - but even so he's seems to be just following without anticipating where the ball is going to go (unlike Walters).

That’s the confidence our team has in each other & the difference it means. Touhy waiting a split sec to watch/help in the contest but Colyer was already off trusting we’d retain possession.

Melbourne do this a lot, let’s hope our game stacks up with theirs & some of the other top teams.

Walker is great at the side step and think we have another 2 who do a great one in Switta and Andy 😊👍

I can see that and agree there is a little bit going on and he is being stubborn. I just don't think he was anywhere near as bad as was being mentioned. Anyway, what a position to be in with so many of the commentators and other teams talking us up. We are playing a tonne better than I thought we would. I still can't believe we beat the cats.

The type of win that had my dad call me (immediately after the song of course) to talk about it all excitedly before he hangs up quickly because he still thinks the call is going to cost $50 as was ingrained in him for so long... haha
To be honest, my only real issue was with him saying "I need to see it" in terms of us proving we can contend, and he never actually said we showed him.

I know it's super picky but he couldn't bring himself to say anything positive about an objectively good win.

I don't care if he thinks we can play finals or a prelim or not, I wanted him to say "that was an excellent win by the Freo boys down at a ground that's really hard to play for opposition teams". But he didn't and can't.

I also noticed he channelled his inner Suma saying we tweaked our style to get the win.

Basically saying 'I was right that their style wouldn't win but they changed their style so they won'.

King reckons we changed our style. His evidence was the increase in our total handballs which was 174. That is a miniscule 10 more handballs than we had (165) the previous week Vs Carlton.

Rather than saying that Freo changed their gameplan. I think it would be more accurate for him to have acknowledged that when the switch isn't on, Freo tend to chip with short kicks and run it forward with handballs. Freo have shown this frequently. King either hasn't noticed, or isn't willing to eat humble pie, I suspect the former.

He did say that our defence is the type of defence that will win big games, but he's suspect on our attack, which I think is fair.

The rate we are going, we'll earn a home final this year and likely win it. But if we want to go all the way to the big dance, we need to kick more goals which I think relies on (a) Sturt and/or Amiss and (b) more midfielders kicking goals. The question is how long it will take Sturt and Amiss to develop and can we tweak our midfield strategy to allow our mids to kick goals (or will Fyfe fix that)?
