That's great money given Port's injury crisis and the fact we're Dew [sic]...

We should come out breathing fire but then again, we didn't in the first quarter against Brissy after being smashed by the Roos in Rnd 1.

I dunno... I've got a good feeling about this game...

I reckon you'd be better off going for the even money bet that gives us a start.

We usually keep the showdowns close, but can never seem to win them. :(

Mmmm... no Carr, Francou, James, Pickett, Hardwick, Primus...

If we can't get close to beating them this week then the club may as well shut down its football operations, convert AAMI Stadium into a paddock and take up farming.

I think you seem to be forgetting that in Showdown 13 (1st one last year) Port were missing 5 top liners and still kicked or backside. Lately we seem to go with then for 3 quarters but then they just leave us for dead.

Showdown 13 they at least had a midfield.

Stevens, James and Carr were all present - so was Peter Burgoyne.

The first three names won't be there this time around.

I hope you are right and that your feeling is spot on but I just can't trust the side to come out and win. So many times in the past we had to face a Port side that had 5 of their top liners out and we had a full squad to chose from (or close to it) and failed miserable.

They might not have those names in there now but I reckon that Michael Wilson (who is spending more time in the midfield this year), Roger James, Peter Burgoyne and Kane Cornes are pretty good midfielders in theor own right. Apart from Roo and maybe Stenglein we really don't have a midfielder that is playing good footy. Burton gets a lot of it on his wing but he burns it so no real advantage there.

EDIT: I think James will play. He had his 2 games of SANFL footy and has regained his touch.

I have a feeling. I don't get this feeling often and last time I did I was wrong!

However this time I think that dress may pay for itself!

I have that same idea.. so I might put $20 on them! :D

we have to win eventually.. so, saturday they should play football and not netball, so that we can get dresses :D haha

Based on our recent showdown record & form I'm certainly not confident. However, if ever the players want to make a statement to rectify both local pride & show us that they are genuinely hungry to make the finals this year, well this is it. They must put absolutely everything on the line Saturday night...

Balance that up with no Goodwin, Biglands, Welsh, Hart, Torney and Reilly, and I think that negates your whole argument.

On top of that Port have a deeper list to cover their losses than we do, and there's no reason in the wide world why we would expect to beat them, given the recent form of the two respective clubs.

Better get your plough out for action on Sunday morning. ;)

To be fair only Goodwin and Hart are topliners compared to their outs.

Biggles, Welsh, Reilly and Biglands come together to form one big meh.

And Torney... where's he been lately? Was considered excess baggage at Richmond...

I think we may need to go to training and give them some 'encouragement' for Saturday night so we can get our money back :D

DT, Mark Stevens is a critical out for us & it is still 5-6 players from our starting 22. The impact of the outs is about the same for them, although they should be able to cover theirs better. Offsetting that is that I'm expecting our players to be unbelievabley desperate given the circumstances we are in. If they're not, it doesn't go well for their character.

Let's try to keep some balance in this debate.

Francou hasn't played for 2 years. Hardwick has barely played a decent game in the same time. James is an excellent player but hasn't played since late last year.

You're really talking Primus, Pickett, and Carr as against Goodwin, Hart, Biglands and Welsh.

That's pretty even in my books.

Possibly... I still think we'll have a distinct advantage in the midfield when all is said and done.

Carr is a massive loss for them.
