Saw Wells at the pub today having a drink, looks like he is preparing himself beautifully.

I don't get how someone can be rated highly enough to be brought straight back into the team after missing a season with a knee, yet isn't given a contract for the following year, when history suggests that it takes a season for a player to fully recover.

Agree rated him, thought he should have been given one more year to show he is over the injury and show his best form

What's the go with Sidebottom? Seems like his time was considerably down on recent years, and he isn't even now in the top 3? That's a bit concerning, although guys like Phillips, Smith and Aish have had a few extra weeks pre-season training on him I suppose.

Sidey carried a fair load last year, as did the club but particularly the senior players, due to external media beat up. If he has taken some time off and rested over the break rather than train he’ll be better for it.

I expect him to improve again next year, he will always be fit enough aerobically to play afl. It’s a question of his mental ability to perform and lead that matters most.

One supporter was disgusted that Wells didn’t do the time trial or take part in the team drill work. I’d rather see him on his own programme if it means we get more games out of him. I guess Ben Reid is being similarly managed.

I initially read your comment as him having a few beers after training maybe while watching the dogs with some mates. I was inclined to agree that it’d be doing wonders for his preparation...

You then followed up by saying it was a wine and judging by the timing of your post (9 pm) I’m thinking it was with dinner. From that I’m getting a distinct feeling it wasn’t a sessional drink and a non issue.

It all depends whether we want to use a tagger this year or not. I think Greenwood is one of the premier taggers in the competition, we are just usually loathe to set tags week in week out.

I think we play better with a tagger. We have such a strong midfield, so if you can shut down the oppositions best player then it allows our midfield to take control

I’m more impartial than most toward Beeg’s narrative because I tend to think along the same lines that the club seriously needs to get their shit together. We’ve seen an improvement this off-season, but I thought the same last year when LT was given the boot so we’ll see...

On the whole I think of Beeg, HFF and PB as the light to the dark that is BJ, JB54 and Darky. All of them go a little too far at times, that’s all, and they need to be pulled into line when they do. ON BOTH SIDES!

He also ran and provided an option at half-forward and snagged a few goals. Look if Greenwood is the baseline "worst" then we'll be in good shape.

Re: Wells and beer. Perfection is a goal, something to aim at. In pursuit of it, you're allowed to still enjoy yourself.

If it doesn't affect his on-field performance or his recovery then I could care less. Even Bucks would have enjoyed a cheeky beer now and again.

I was annoyed that he didn't participate in the trial, was at the pub after having a drink.

Just had an 8 week holiday, I would have thought getting his preparation right in the preseason would be a priority.

It’s an interesting analogy! As a fan I would be a “swing voter”. I get that people would probably say I lean towards the negative (is that the left or right?), but the reality is we’re shit and until we aren’t shit anymore there’s little to sway me towards the positive.

My political views are that being forced to vote under penalty of a fine is one of the most undemocratic laws in modern society.
