What sort of player is this New Boy Unknown To Me? Is he the KPP we need?

PS: in all seriousness, could it have been Murray?

He’s no longer on our list which has been finalized, so no.

Yeah but the rookie draft happened at 5pm. Training was in the morning. I'm guessing they both could have participated. But it's understandable why they didn't.

He didn't do the time trial so doubtful.

Wasn't Oxley part of the 'injured' group last week anyway? Presumably Ramsay had been told of his fate already.

I’d expect that’s the case as well. It was such a quick fall for him too!

This time last year with Williams freshly departed he was expected to be best 22 barring injury. I can’t help feeling that it was really bad timing for him to fall OOC...

It’s a hard lesson for every bloke at the club to take any chance you get!

What's the go with Sidebottom? Seems like his time was considerably down on recent years, and he isn't even now in the top 3? That's a bit concerning, although guys like Phillips, Smith and Aish have had a few extra weeks pre-season training on him I suppose.

Definitely hard, but I think it also had a lot to do with the fact he was out of contract. Guys like Oxley were saved by the fact they had a contract and we couldn't just blow money on paying them out.

We clearly wanted at least 3 draft picks, so Ramsay was the last one standing on the list that could be cut.

It seems circumstances really conspired against him. But if we're honest, he isn't someone I had anywhere near the best 22.

Do you really think Sidey's got to keep proving his "endurance" qualities to the powers that be?
He's always been there when needed and he'll continue to be. Gun player, big game specialist. I don't think champs have to keep killing the pre season 2k trial to keep their spots.

Training Report: Monday November 27: Full List Time Trial
Cool & Cloudy after early showers 17C

The players must have done their warm ups behind closed doors, because they didn’t enter the arena until 10:10 and it was straight into the 2km time trial.
Smith and Greenwood took off early and after one lap led the field with new boy Jaidyn Stephenson third and then Phillips, Aish, Howe, Broomhead and Crisp.
After two laps it was Smith from Greenwood and Phillips with Aish and Sidebottom 100 metres further back.
After 3 laps Greenwood took the lead from Smith and Phillips. It was only a matter of time before Phillips made his move and he made it at the Yarra goal end. He took off and left Greenwood and Smith in his wake.

As they crossed the line it was Phillips easily from Greenwood and Smith. Phillips’s time of 6:04 was not a PB. He told me later that he’d run a sub 6 min trial in the first session back after last Christmas.
Me: You sat back for the first few laps. Was that a plan to see what the others had?
TP: Not really. I wasn’t feeling very well. I was a bit sick early this morning and it sometimes takes me a while to get going. Once I’m on the track I’m fine.
Times:
Phillips: 6:04
Greenwood 6:10
Smith 6:11

Sidebottom 6:21
Crisp 6:27
Aish 6:28

Crocker 6:31
Adams 6:32
**Nathan Murphy 6:32
Blair 6:36
New boy unknown to me 6:36
Howe 6:39

Mayne 6:40
Will H-E 6:40
Broomhead 6:41
••Stephenson 6:44
Maynard 6:44
Fasolo 6:47

Dunne 6:58
Varcoe 6:59

Cox 7:05
Grundy 7:12
••Tyler Brown 7:16
Sam McLarty 7:21

Sam McLarty was physically ill after his run and later said it must have been his breakfast disagreeing with him.
Although Kayle Kirby was on the track, he didn’t do the time trial this time around. Callum Brown and Daniel Wells didn’t do the time trial either. Max Lynch arrived late.

Not present: Scott Pendlebury, Ben Reid, Adam Treloar, Darcy Moore, Adam Oxley, Jackson Ramsay, Jordan DeGoey, Brayden Sier, Rupert Wills.

It was great to see all three draftees do the run. When was the last time that happened? All of our draftees appear fit and ready to go. After the time trial they left the track.

After the time trial there was 90 minutes of skill work. Most of the drills were ones I’ve mentioned before, but there were a few new ones worth mentioning.

One involved senior players (5 years and more on list) taking the ball in front of goal, having a bounce and then kicking to Anthony Rocca 30 metres away on the flank. Players then accepted the handball, took a bounce and delivered to on the wing to Matthew Boyd. Then another bounce before kicking to Bucks at CHF. Another handball receive before shooting at goal. Then players wheeled around and ran back to do it all again.

I was talking to another track watcher about Tay Adams getting a bad rap for his disposal. I defended him and then we watched as he took the ball on the wing and kicked to Bucks. We laughed as the ball skewed off the side of his boot and went 30 metres sideways. Oh well.

The other noticeable drill was goal kicking. One group of players did this for over 30 minutes before being joined by the entire list.
It seems there is an emphasis on field kicking, ball movement and goal kicking already so early in the pre-season.

One supporter was disgusted that Wells didn’t do the time trial or take part in the team drill work. I’d rather see him on his own programme if it means we get more games out of him. I guess Ben Reid is being similarly managed.

Eddie turned up at about 11:15 and when the new recruits came back out, he had a chat to each of them and welcomed them to the club. He introduced each to Ian McMullin as well.

Happy to answer any questions you may have.
interesting to hear Phillips was crook before the 2kmTT. He's been crook a few times leading up to games and missed a couple too

Went from being fast, decent one on one and an above average kick to below par in all 3 areas... essentially left with zero positive traits. Bit sad but that’s how it goes for some.

Ramma very unlucky all 3 guys who went on to be rookied don't look as talented as him.
I don't get how someone can be rated highly enough to be brought straight back into the team after missing a season with a knee, yet isn't given a contract for the following year, when history suggests that it takes a season for a player to fully recover.

Saw Wells at the pub today having a drink, looks like he is preparing himself beautifully.

What was he drinking, how many did he have?
