Let's leave Grigg out of it for a minute - it could be just an example. We'd be left with something like picks 5 and 11 followed by 55 and so on. Is that a good position to be in? If we gave our 2nd and 3rd rounders away, we'd probably look at trading back into those rounds by trading blokes like Harris, Jones or Power.

None of the mentioned players have any value. The only value Harris may have is a late pick from Essendon if they feel Port may jump in before them.

Jones wouldn't attract much interest and Power would attract no interest. Jones was floated last year and no one was keen, so can't see that improving after a woeful 2009.

The simpler deal would be Gibbo and our 2nd rounder for pick 11. No other players involved. A player like Grigg would be equavalent to our 3rd rounder anyway, so there is little point in complicating the Gibson trade with it.

Do I think Gibbo + 2nd Rounder for pick 11 is fair? Yes I do.

North have flatly refused to to talk to the Hawks.

I was sure I read last week that Lewis Bryce had already held talks with Felchen Chris.

I've come to accept that Gibbo is gone, so all I'm worried about now is getting another first round pick, don't care where he goes.

I agree 100% mate.

North will make the right call - the club made some really great decisions in the last 18 months - so ill back them in to get a first round pick.

If Hadley goes back to Brisbane as suggested in a rumour. Surely Carlton may have some small interest in Harris as their in and under stocks are pretty thin.

Maybe Gibbo and Harris for Pick 11 and a sweetener of swapping second round picks.

North: Pick 11 + Pick 27
Carlton: Gibson, Harris + Pick 21

I would prefer to take Grigg in the deal, moreso than Gibbo and Round 2.

Adding Grigg gives us another midfield option. That leaves the club with a decision on whether or not to take a KPP with pick 11 as we will have midfield at pick 5 plus Grigg for midfield roles.

With picks 5 and 11 and no Grigg the club will have less flexibility on which players to take come draft day.

Would not surprise to see C Jones being traded. May be for a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder. He has played well against the Swans and they may consider him as a replacement for O'Loughlan.

Gibbo + second round pick for Pick 11 from Carlton, is even worse than Gibbo + second round pick for Pick 9 from Hawthorn.

It is just a pick upgrade. :thumbsd:

If two clubs are seriously interested in Gibbo, North can do better than a pick upgrade.

I enjoy the animosity between our clubs, but if your football department is refusing to deal with Hawthorn due to some past trades that didn't work out as well as you'd hoped, then that's your loss. I'd want them to deal with any club that was interested if it meant you could get the best deal.

But if your Footy department wants to hold grudges and send Gibson to the PSD or to Carlton for d*ck all, then so be it. We'll go after someone else.

Have a glorious day!

Its better than what THE DAWKS are offering. They won't want to part ways with their first rounder, because it'll be used to get someone like tarrant or sandilands. I'd be happy with a pick upgrade. 2 picks in the top ten would have a big impact on our playing list espicially if we can get two of Martin, Cunnington, Tapscott, Stevens, Lucas, Panos...:thumbsu:

Huh?

If you were to believe the substance of this thread it sounds like we're refusing to deal to deal with Hawthorn coz Carlton is offering a better deal. Sounds fair to me.

Good day to you, sir.

Thanks, and a very good day to you too.

So you are saying all Gibbo is worth is upgrading our 2nd round pick 10 places well outside the quality zone? That is worse than Hawthorn's pick 25 for Gibbo. :p

I'd assume the reason we flat tack refused to deal with Hawthorn was stubbornness, i.e not willing to part with pick 9.

That's fair enough from where I sit.

If the draft is as shallow as is suggested, then upgrading our second rounder by 10 places could make a big difference. But I am happy to trust it to Scott, Lewis and Joyce. ;)

Not a fan of Grigg. Turns the ball over a lot in a team where he gets no attention.

Pick 11 would be good. A bidding war between Carlton and the Hawks would be great.

i dont think a pick upgrade like that would be ideal

we should definitely be aiming for 3 picks in the top 21

Getting a knickers in a knot are we?

Seems that you are getting a little bit annoyed that you won't Gibbo for a bargain, like you thought you may have?

So getting Pick 11 from Carlton is dick all? I would have thought Pick 25 was dick all, but what would I know?

Sounds good to me.

Haven't seen Grigg enough to make a definitive judgement, but I remember thinking he is not bad, stats look ok for a young mid and was top 20 in a very strong draft. If this year's draft drops away as quickly as is being talked about, then that seems like a pretty good deal.

And of course the benefit of getting the Hawks to work harder to try and get Gibbo can't be overlooked. The Hawks want him bad, it is very obvious and why wouldn't you when Gilham is far and away your best defender going into 2010?? It would almost be worth it to lose him for nothing if they have to eat heavily into their cap to try and get him over.

Very much like the other news as well re a flat no to G&G and the stance on Hale.

I prefer the news in this rumour thread than Scotty's thread. Hopefully some other clubs coming knocking re Gibson. A bidding war is exactly what we need. Pick 9 should still be the goal here.
