Soon as a sportsman has knee surgery its hard to come back.

Prob the best AUS bowler on English pitches... Could be an injury on a par with McGrath in 2005.

Not in my head.

I had doubts about him playing more than 2 matches anyway. His fitness has been such an issue for him and given his age, his body was not going to improve on what it had been regardless of what surgery he had.

Haze will be alright. This is his first tour of England, he'll learn a lot from this.

Starc doesn't pick himself. He's pretty average in the test format against quality batsmen who don't get out to his wide trash and aren't fooled by his only regular wicket taking delivery.

I have concerns as well, but on form in the Carribean and tour games he has been perhaps the best of the bowlers. So in Harris' absence he has to start the series. On form it would probably be Johnson who would be under the most pressure - but not under much pressure now and always would have started the series. I do think Starc would have been the one to miss first up had Harris been fit, and come in for Johnson if "bat Mitch" returned. Having Johnson and Starc together is a risk but one that Aus has to take now.

So on Faulkner, there seems to be some confusion regarding blood alcohol level and breath alcohol level. I found something that should clear it up:

The key part:

In England and Wales, the alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath or 107 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine. In most other European countries, the limit is less, usually 50 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of blood (3).

So the legal limit there is a BAC of 0.08. There has been some confusion because Faulkner was reported as blowing 0.10, but that figure refers to 100 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. That equates to a blood alcohol level of 0.22, which is really quite high.

Bowled was his dismissal of choice like normal. The pitched up ball on the stumps. Works when you can swing the ball well, but he doesn't swing the red ball enough to trouble top class batsmen. I mean we're talking about a county team in divison two and the West Indies who would get beaten by almost every state team I reckon.

Some good highlights here from day three. Starc did bowl a nice ball on a very awkward length that caught the edge at 1:49 and the following yorker was pretty delicious in the way it homed in on that middle stump almost in slow motion. It's a cliche but Starc seems in a very good place right now.

Love the disdain ten Doeschate was showing Lyon, how good was that hit out of the ground!

Also like the culture of cricket over there. Pretty enthusiastic crowd for a warm up game which is great. The usual Canberra PM's XI warm up matches are a good thing and seem to be supported well, but I reckon the game in Australia is worse off in comparison to the old days of a carnival atmosphere like at Lilac Hill.
