I'm not calling for Marsh to be picked, just pointing out that "he averages 28 in tests" isn't the smackdown people think it is.

If Marsh didn't bowl he wouldn't be in any conversations. The selectors have prioritised all rounders since Flintoff had his career series in 2005. Outside a run of good form in 2009/10 Shane Watson had one of the most average test careers you can imagine - because he bowled. Marsh has played 46 tests, Green has played 33, Webster 7. Because they bowl.

marsh hasn't bowled a ball in competitive cricket since his last test a year ago and in july confirmed that he won't be bowling for the foreseeable future, and intends to play as a batter only in all formats.

If England loses the 2nd Test in Brisbane-and by a big margin-how much longer can Brendan McCullum and Ben Stokes last as England coach and captain respectively, seeing the powerbrokers at Lord's are about to call in the firing squad.
If, and only if they lose badly in Brisbane, then yes they’ll be in trouble.

Otherwise it will take a 4-0 result

Marsh has had some abysmal stints in the side, but from 2023 onwards he was actually pretty good.

He was rightly on a short leash and dropped after a few bad games, but his hundred in England was excellent. He's got a good Ashes record in general and I don't think he'd be much worse than current Khawaja or even Inglis.

Good? He averaged under 30 as per usual. I’d take Khawaja even if he’s cooked over gifting that bloke more tests

Hopefully the Brisbane test ends up alright, because it's going to be really embarrassing if the 150th anniversary test is done in 2 days

So, let’s say England loses the Ashes 5-0. Who will replace Brendan McCullum and Ben Stokes as England coach and captain respectively?
Justin Langer and Joe Burns.

BAZBALL ANNOUNCES IT WILL ASSUME FULL CONTROL OF ENGLAND MEN’S TEST TEAM

London, UK – In a development described by scientists as “deeply concerning” and by fans as “inevitable, really,” the ECB confirms that Bazball has manifested as a fully sentient, corporeal entity and will immediately assume the roles of Head Coach and Interim Spiritual Overlord of the England Men’s Test side.

The entity, taking the physical form of a blazing cricket ball surrounded by an aura of reckless optimism, addressed assembled media by smashing through a press-room window and declaring: “We bat last. Always.” Following England’s recent 5–0 Ashes defeat, Bazball stated its intention to restore vibrancy, chaos, and at least three reverse sweeps per over to national cricketing culture.

Training sessions under the entity’s leadership will now comprise ramp shots off bowling machines set to 155 kph, compulsory crowd pleasing celebrations, and mindfulness exercises focused on believing the impossible, even when it is clearly impossible. Team selection will be determined through an algorithm that blends strike rate, vibes, the player’s history of hitting a six into a car park, and their willingness to shout “Let’s f***ing go!” on national television.

In terms of tactical philosophy, Bazball has reaffirmed strict loyalty to its founding principles: attack, overattack, and, if in doubt, attack harder. Blocking the ball will now result in a fine, mandatory yoga, and a polite but firm bollocking.

With Brendan McCullum stepping aside to focus on hobbies that do not involve sentience, Bazball will oversee coaching decisions while drifting two feet above the dressing room floor emitting what witnesses describe as “aggressive but supportive energy.” Ben Stokes remains captain in theory, although Bazball has indicated that it may copilot the team by whispering ultra positive mantras directly into his skull.

Outgoing Managing Director Rob Key commented: “Frankly, we didn’t expect Bazball to achieve consciousness, but we’re committed to embracing innovation. Also, the entity has made it clear that any attempt to remove it will result in England scoring at under 4.5 runs an over, which we cannot accept.”

Bazball’s first act as coach will be to schedule an emergency training camp titled “Fear Is For Teams Who Lose,” followed by a team building exercise involving an attempt to chase 600 runs in 50 overs purely for enjoyment.

The ECB asks the public for calm, reassurance, and continued belief in the process, even if the process is now a glowing supernatural force demanding relentlessly attacking form of cricket at all times.

WEll according to latest our skipper is back but I was talking if he wasnt. Just reckon Neser is a better bet at the Gabba on a pitch that he knows like a good friend. Have seen him bowl some fantastic spells against the best state batters.
My attack is Cummins, Starc, Neser. But they will go with Barrell.

Agree would even consider Webster as a bowler in these conditions

Is Mitchell Starc our best pink baller or is it Pat Cummins or Josh Hazlewood, some conjecture. Lets do the maths even tho separate pink ball stats are not listed, my guesstimate is all Adelaide Tests since 2017 were pinkies, so given that is the case, Starc has played 10 - taken 55w @17.1 with best of 6/48. Cummins 5 - 26 @21.1, best of 5/57. Hazlewood 7 - 41 @16.8 best of 6/70.

There have been three at the Gabba so far.

2016 at vs Pakistan there, Hazlewood was so good they stopped trying to score at all. He has been a great pink-ball bowler.

Also see 5-8 vs India in 2020 at Adelaide.

Or you could use Cricinfo:

Starc: 14 matches, 81 wickets at 17.08, SR 33.3, ER 3.07, 5.7 W/T
Cummins: 9 matches, 43 wickets at 17.34, SR 37.2, ER 2.79, 4.8 W/T
Hazlewood: 9 matches, 40 wickets at 18.5, SR 43.2, ER 2.46, 4.6 W/T

You're welcome

Cummins out. Lyon cleared. Hoping Head opens and maybe Neser gets in over Doggett (who played well, but I'm taking Neser with the pink ball). Wouldn't mind picking Doggett over Boland and get both Boland and Cummins for Adelaide

Good point about Neser, I think he had a decent pink ball test a while back. He also made a 30 I reckon under lights when it was very tough batting.
