Who's gonna be the next Novak?

Alcaraz and Sinner have commenced a stranglehold on the ATP Tour reminiscent of Federer and Nadal 20 years earlier.

This is a hypothetical more than anything but there are some similarities.

In 2003, Federer won his first of many Grand Slams.

Two years later (2005), Nadal won his first of many Grand Slams.

The two would single-handedly dominate Tennis without any real challenger until Novak broke through for his maiden Slam at the 2008 Aus Open.

------

Relationship:

In 2022, Alcaraz won his first of many Grand Slams.

Two years later (2024), Sinner won his first of many Grand Slams.

If (Hypothetical) there were to be a third challenger, to continue the trend, the third challenger would have to be younger than Alcaraz and Sinner, currently on the tour, who will win their maiden Slam in 2027.

Who is best positioned to became the third dominant player of this current era?

Arthur Fils & Jakub Mensik might be best positioned to challenge.
I'm hoping Fonseca steps up to the plate.

Nick Kyrgios has led a wave of outrage as Jannik Sinner announced controversial high-performance coach Umberto Ferrara has returned to his team.
In news that has dropped the jaws of many commentators, Sinner’s new management group on Wednesday night announced the fitness coach has been re-hired 12 months after he was cut loose in the middle of the Italian’s doping storm.

Well done to Popy who seems to love a Canadian court. Rises to a new career high of 19!

I think the atp live rankings is stuffed because this went to a 2 week event. Shouldn't be rising considering he's still losing points.

Impressed so far by this week. Zverev should be too tough but a QF would be limiting the damage a lot less

The Canada result comes off a week later this year so effectively he'll have two results in Canada which means he'll be top 20 for one week and then dramatically fall out the week after (unless he keeps winning).

Canada and Cincinatti overlapping is bizarre.

I've kind of liked the Canada night sessions and finishing on a Thursday, been able to see a bit of it.

Do we need it? Not really.

People do amazing things playing for their country. AUS has had plenty of them over the years.

Alex sure isn't hopeless - he just wasn't good enough today for an opponent who stepped up.

I just assumed he would be playing was wondering the same thing…
The captain chooses the team - it's not automatic based on rankings. Always been this way.

I expect if Jordan wins this rubber (and perhaps even if he doesn't) the AUS doubles combo might replace Hijikata with Thommo and Vukic might be subbed in for the 2nd singles.

Popyrin is not part of the team this tie.
