this was the peak of australian cricket for mine: 1999-2003. loved watching the aussies in this time, playing some exciting cricket and notching some awesome wins.

thought it might be a good thread for pics and memories of such a great era. even though we were unstoppable, each match was so exciting. a bit of a tribute to an amazing team.

I would say 99wc to the 04 victory in India would be the peak.

In that era the biggest quest for the aussies was winning in asia, in 2004 we won 3 close tests in sri lanka(a forgotten classic imo) and then went on to win the big one in india.

There will always be question marks over the way Tripod was cleared of that match fixing scandal, but no one can deny what a great player he was.

And, boy, didn't he love to text!

Tripod was just such a stylish bat, unlike his twin Tripod, who was much more gritty

And if Tripod wasnt from NSW he'd never have had such a good run with selectors

Tripod was unlucky to be a great legspinner playing at the same time as the greatest legspinner, Tripod.

Tripod turned the ball as much, if not more. But Tripod had more control.

It was a pity that Tripod's mother, Bipod, had to give him that diuretic, otherwise he may still have the bowling record.

I would extend it to 2007, bar 05 we were amazing to watch, especially when Ponting hit peak un touchable form, Any one remember his 100th test for example

Ahh memories . . . .

during this time was also one of the greatest test series of all time - australia in india 2001.

a phenomenal series were 'the streak' of 16 straight test wins (will we ever see anything like that streak again!?) was brought to an unbelievable halt thanks to 'that' partnership with laxman and dravid in kolkata. greats of the game on both side going hard at each other, even though it was a loss it is still my favorite series to reflect upon during australia's dominance of world cricket

Australia matched it with that win against India in Sydney 2008 (The infamous match where everything went to shit and Pup got three wickets in an over.) Everyone thought they'd break the record because the next match was in Perth and India were usually rubbish in Perth. They couldn't do it though.

6. Martyn
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9. Lee
10. Gillespie
11. McGrath

What an 11 that was! :)

And then you had blokes who could come in and contribute nicely to the side such as Lehmann, Bichel, Macgill, Miller and Love.

Ahh thanks for the clarification mate, didn't realise it was up to 16 straight wins again that period (I thought it was 16 tests undefeated?) Anyway Im likely wrong. But yes I remember that test well. Everyone thought India would be steam rolled on a juicy WACA wicket however it was their quicks (sharma and pathan if I recall correctly) that had our blokes in all sorts. In fact Im pretty sure that was the game where Sharma worked ponting over his spell of around 7-8 overs, could of had his wicket a number of times but finally got him caught at slips in the end. One of the best spells of fast bowling on our decks from a foreigner I've seen
