An side-affect from Mitch and Hauritz being dropped is that Australia now have quite a tail. Harris batted at 10 against NZ and is now up to 8. They could go from 6 down to all out in quite a hurry.

If the batsmen weren't so shit it wouldn't be a problem. Harris isn't a bad bat normally though, and Johnsons batting of late has nearly been as piss poor as his bowling.

Hauritz is probably the bigger batting loss.

Hauritz was averaging about 35 with the bat of late, he was handy.

But the top 7 should be more than good enough. When you're relying on the Tail for runs you're in trouble (or the Qld Sheffield Shield team)

tail starts after hussey :(

Haddin is handy and seems to be around good form atm.

If the top 7 could make a decent score this wouldn't be an issue, we shouldn't pick bowlers based on the fact that they can cover for our failing batsmen.

If our no 6 was any good, we wouldn't have to worry so much about our bowlers not scoring enough runs for us. And at present our no 4.

I have this creepy suspicion that unless Katich gets another score, he'll get dropped for Hughes next match or the one after. I wouldn't trust the Aus selectors an inch where the batsmen are concerned.

Quoted for truth. People were shitcaning the selectors for putting Smith in the squad before the first test. Smith is showing to be a better Bat AND Bowl than North. He needs to be closely looked at.

The 4 and 6 MUST get a big score in the 2nd dig or we must be bringing in any of Smith/White/Kahjwa/Ferguson.

The same old shit just don't cut it anymore :(

The tail is long but lets be honest we don't want them scoring runs. We want our top 4 scoring big runs and it just isn't happening. Cricket Australia need to bite the bullet and move Watson down the order he just doesn't make big tons.

I agree with you normally but let's face it the team is so ordinary at the moment we need to almost pick all rounders to fill gaps. I honestly think Steve Smith would be really handy in this squad he could easily bowl out the pesky england tail and make 50s down the order. I don't think we can afford to pick players like Doherty unless they offer a bit of both.

The problem isn't a long tail, it's too many passengers. Clarke, North and Doherty are all specialists who aren't justifying their places in the side for various reasons. Clarke seems unfit, Doherty isn't doing anything a parttimer like Smith or North can't do, and North is... well, North.

Shoring up bad specialists by picking people who can do a bit of the other is silly. The only position I'd consider it for is the spinner slot, since it seems we don't have a spinner that is better than parttimer quality anyway.
