Nice pictures, but wrong target audience. For the people coming from overseas for a World Cup it is more about being in the host city, watching a game or two and getting drunk in between. Given that Australia is so expensive a destination I doubt that many will be able to afford the extra airfare and a few days in an exclusive resort as well as tickets and accomdation in one of the big cities for the games.

So ,you think we haven't got enough going for us to lure them back:).The 600 million people on our doorstep of South East Asia will love our country,as will everyone
For all our international members I'll prove you wrong

Didn't you offer to billet blonde Swedish girls at your place in 2022?

I am sure that will save them a fair bit on accommodation :)

That's all very nice... but this is really what we should be showing the world cup visitors while they are here.

I'm sure the good folk from overseas might be curious enough to want to take in and experience a little bit of the local sporting kulcha played also at the highest level.

We might even be able to convert a few of them over to our great game as well! :D

Completely agree that we should try and get some WC visitors to AFL fixtures. Forget about converting them; for them it will be nothing more then a novelty.

What makes you so sure?

They are coming to Australia because they like Australia and they like sport, and the local flavour of Football ticks both boxes.

You never know... it might offer a refreshing change to the excitement of a 0-0 draw between powerhouses Burkina Faso and Aruba. :)

Even that beats the boredom of a North vs Bulldogs game at a 3/4 empty Etihad :)

Yes, Australia has many spectacular destinations to visit. However, unlike Europe, USA, Asia, the distance between each place is huge. It takes hours by plane to get from one capital city to another, and then often several more hours by bus/train to get to those amazing natural locations. The fact is that people visit a World Cup first and foremost for the soccer, party/atmoshphere second or equal first, then sight seeing a distant third. Another thing to remember that the world cup will be on smack bang in the middle of winter. In Melbourne, it ain't that nice being outside. Even Sydney is not that nice in the middle of winter. AFL could actually be something to promote as something a visitor should see when they visit. It is unique to the country.

Melbourne-average 14.0 degrees. We don't usually reach the minimums of South Africa at that time and it was perfectly fine
Only 1 stadium in Melbourne anyway

The world cup will be an appetiser for folks to come back.
Many thousands arrive weeks early so that they can tour.
I went back to Germany(with the whole extended family),I'm definitely going back to South Africa(with my wife).
93% of people that went to SA said they would either go back or recommend it to others.
Such a brilliant opportunity to showcase the country to thousands that may never have considered our nation as a destination because they come from countries that we don't have much relations with-either in sport outside football or in business. There is still 140 countries Australia hasn't even played yet!

Can anyone tell me the details of Australia's bid as far as where the final will be played?

By FIFA regulations, it has to be played in a stadium of over 80 000, so that leaves two options for Australia- the Olympic stadium in Sydney (whatever the new incarnation of it is called) and the MCG in Melbourne. FIFA and the FFA make decisions if the bid wins. From all the talk, it sounds like Sydney would eb the favorite for the final, but who knows? If I were picking it, I'd go this way:

Quarter finals: Perth, MCG, Brisbane, Sydney (put one at the SFS, saving the Olympic park for later.

Semi-finals: MCG and Sydeny olympic Stadium

Third Place: Brisbane

FinalSydeny Olympic Stadium

At this point because of the lack of support in Victoria, its sad to say that the decision is easy.
Victoria can only look forward to 6 or 7 matches:thumbsd:
Melbourne will get either the opening game or a quarter and semi
Geelong has totally lost its chance,as much as I've tried to rally support, its been sabotaged at every attempt,so too bad for them.Hardly any more time for them to plea their case
People down here will only realise when we actually get to host, and then they will jump up and down-not my fault
