Australia T20 Side

Picking the Aussie T20 team is very difficult. Because none of the Aussie test players play in the domestic T20 competition we don't get to compare them to players like Warner, S Marsh, D Hussey etc so we don't have any idea who we should pick.

One day form would probably be used - as would non domestic T20 performances.

Given the success of the big bash - i reckon we'll see a 10 game season next year.

Watson
Harris
S Marsh
Clarke (c)
White
Haddin (+)
Hastings
Johnson
Hauritz
Bracken
Nannes

Watson is very good in T20, and Harris is the form opener in the comp. Marsh is a very good #3, while Clarke is the skipper, with White and Haddin are tremendous strikers of the ball. Hastings and Johnson are great all-rounders, with Hauritz being the premier spinner in allforms. Bracken and Nannes are very good T20 bowlers, and are perfect for the new ball

Maybe in a year or two when he's made runs

he currently has played 3 matches, batted twice and made stuff all runs

Steve smith can't bowl yet and there are much better batsmen.

in fact the way dom thornley bowled the other night - he should be in the squad - bowled exactly like johan botha - yorker darts on off stump

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You have got to be kidding yourself... right??

5 Wicket Hauls: 0

The biggest impact came in the Twenty20 tournament, where he finished the qualifying matches as the competition's joint-highest wicket-taker with nine victims at a remarkable average of 5.33. His 4 for 15 in the dying stages against a Queensland side chasing 122 helped New South Wales to victory and earned him the Man-of-the-Match award. An allrounder who bowls legspin and can bat high in the order, Smith also top scored in the Blues' last match of the series with 33 from 26 balls.

Must be terrible. A player who is also very very handy in the field. Watched him the other night at the MCG and he impressed me with his vibe and excitement for the game. A real positive from him is his temperament. He has a good head on his shoulders and will play some form of cricket for Australia this summer, I will guarantee it.

He really is terrible isnt he. I just might die wondering now

Oh, just for the record:

Shaun Marsh
David Warner
Shane Watson
Cameron White
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Brad Haddin
James Hopes
Mitchell Johnson
Steve Smith
Peter Siddle

3 really good quicks (Johnson, Siddle & Watson), an all rounder to hold down an end (Hopes) and plenty of spinners to choose from (White, Clarke, Smith).

Lots of hitters and plenty of batting depth.

What I would pick...

Shaun Marsh
Tim Paine
Cameron White
Mark Cosgrove
Adam Voges
Michael Hussey
Steven Smith
Andrew McDonald
John Hastings
Ryan Harris
Shaun Tait

What I think the selectors would pick...

Shaun Marsh
Shane Watson
Brad Haddin
Michael Clarke
Cameron White
George Bailey
Michael Hussey
Steven Smith
Mitchell Johnson
Nathan Bracken
Shaun Tait

Though Clarke should not be picked - would be better off with Ponting!

The only thing flawed is your interpretation.

WTF has laxman and dravid got to do with it?

I didn't say I'd pick the test x1 as the team - just that i'd prefer it to some of those picked in here.

I didn't realise ponting had retired, just googled it and found the news - was in Thailand at the time. I'd bring D Hussey into the team and bat him at 3.

And the point I was trying to make is that there's nothing wrong with picking a specialist squad for T20.

Picking the usual suspects is not going to bring you T20 success, as India and Pakistan have proved during their T20 success.

The sides being picked in here would do just fine over a Test team which consists of Katich, Clarke and North who are all steady batsman and would not suit the T20 mould. Our test team would get their backsides kicked (imo) playing against a Pakistan T20 team. Henceforth my point in regards to Indian cricket (i.e. Laxman and Dravid) still stands as your comment, I believe, is way off the mark.

David Warner
Shaun Marsh
Micheal Clarke
Shane Watson
Cameron White
David Hussey
Brad Haddin
Steve Smith
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee (when fit)
Nathan Bracken (when fit) / Dirk Nannes
Shaun Tait

There's 12 named above. Can choose to have the extra batsman as Watson and D.Hussey can bowl, or can choose to have the extra bowler.

I think the Phillip Hughes/David Warner combo for NSW is a strong one at the top of the order and it showed during the champions league. But at the moment I think there's several other openers (and more dynamic ones) who could do the job up the top for Australia at the moment.

I personally wouldn't pick Clarke at all for T20 but he's the captain and he plays regardless.

Unlucky: Hughes, Dougie B, Hauritz (?)

I've personally never seen Hauritz play in a T20 so I can't really guage how good he is in regards to this format. Personally I believe Heal from WA does a brilliant job in T20, and Krejza was great last season for Tassie with bat and ball.

3 players with no right to a place in the aussie t20 side

geez i knew smith had been doing very good in t20s i had no idea his bowling stats were that good avg of 13 but most impressive is the economy rate of 7runs an over.
Does that include his ICL stats or is it just the big bash stats.

to the guy that said our test team should be the t20 team thats pretty much the reason why we got killed in the t20 world cup.

Its an absolute joke that Clarke is captain of the t20 team that game doesnt suit him an hes lucky to even be in the Aus 1 day team.

If you actually read the guys posts, he said, that he believes some of the sides (in this thread) are that poorly selected that the current Test side would beat them. He never said that he thinks the Test side should be the T20 side.

I can't beleive most of the sides named in this thread dont have Clint Mckay in them!!! Was named in the All-star T20 team in the champions league, seems to be a selectors favourite at the moment and played in Australia's last T20 match and snared 3-20odd from 4 overs!!! Give the boy some credit.
My team anyway:

Shaun Marsh
David Warner
Cameron White
Tim Paine
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
James Hopes
Steve Smith
Clint Mckay
John Hastings
Shaun Tait

3 players with no right to a place in the aussie t20 side

And why is that??

Brad Haddin: Australia's number one keeper - batsmen who hits it just as hard as any other batsmen in the country. Has an eye to be able to bat any where from 1 - 6 and is becoming more and more adapt to becoming a genuine international keeper each time he does keep.

Mitchell Johnson: Our number one all rounder who dominated world cricket last year (Won; International Player of the year in a losing Ashes series, home series loss??).

Peter Siddle is our "big white hope" according to many and he will play in the T20's (unless he does not want to - which i think he may have stated recently, pulling out of IPL etal). He is still young, and will be able to teach him a few things in learning to adapt to various conditions and games situations.

But hey, my opinion is different to yours so it must be wrong??

Obviously with the Big Bash on we are a bit clouded by the form of the domestic players being at the forefront of our minds, however:

Tim Paine
David Warner
Shaun Marsh
Shane Watson
Michael Clarke (I assume he has to play seeing as he is captain)
David Hussey
James Hopes
Mitchell Johnson
Aaron Heal
Clint McKay
Shaun Tait

Steve Smith, Nathan Hauritz, Dirk Nannes, Ryan Harris, Mark Cosgrove, Luke Ronchi as squad members.

I personally do not rate Cosgrove, he is not fit enough to play in the most elite version of the game (international level that is) and he is a bit one dimensional (he was hitting balls that should have been cut through cow corner??). Not good enough for mine either.

Hayden
Warner
Khawaja
Marsh
White
Gilchrist
Smith
Warne
McGrath
Starc
Tait

12th - M Marsh (if he really is a good quick bowler, he might come in anyway).

That's what it should be.

Our Twenty20 side should be used to give our legends a bit of a sendoff, but, more importantly, for them to help guide the next generation of guns into the international arena.

Yeah, I used to be a bit of a fan of Cosgrove, however, he really does try and yank everything to mid wicket when he is trying to score quickly. Some players have the ability to hit the ball powerfully using conventional cricket shot, ie. Symonds, however, Cosgrove seems to think the only way to score quickly is to whack it over mid wicket. In 50 over one dayers, he has a more all round game.

Cosgrove wont play while he's that fat.

If he's batting with Hussey or Punter or Clarke and they want to scramble 3 when it's only 2, he can't do it.

What positions is he capable of fielding at? Slips? If he has to chase a ball, it's an extra run for the batting side.

He can bat, but that's not enough anymore.

I'm not sure whose quote you are referring to, but, I don't think he should be in the side either, was just passing comment on the deteriation in his technique and actual batting style when he tries to score too quickly.

bugger me dead - someone who can read... :thumbsu:
