What chance Adam Voges for a Test call-up?
I'd back it. Form is good and if they're ready to replace Watson now that M.Marsh is in the top 6, Voges could be ideal for a year or two. Plenty of English experience for the Ashes also.
Why Voges hasn't played more about 200 ODIs by now baffles me.
Fair call. He just seems to sum up an ODI so well. Every time I've seen him play he's batted perfectly for the situation.Huge fan of Voges, but over the years who should he have replaced in the middle order? If he was the incumbent we'd be making the same kind of statements about Bailey, Dave Hussey etc.

I guess it comes down to whether they're swayed by the volume of runs at FC level or are already committed to Burns and the Marsh brothers.Batsmen get better with age, even better if they are in form - Voges either gets picked now or never.

Maybe we could take these fringe players, including Voges, to the West Indies and give them a proper chance to press their claims.
Fair enough.Alternatively - Voges is contracted to Middlesex.
Let him go to Middlesex and play. If he's scoring runs in first division county cricket and we need a middle order batsman in the Ashes?
Well bring him in then.
I guess my suggestion would involve actually letting him play. Will give him an opportunity to stay in form which he won't sitting on the bench in the West Indies and playing the occasional tour match.
Fair enough.
If you were sitting down to pick the squad to tour the West Indies next week, who gets the nod out of Burns, the Marshes and Voges?
Assuming Watson survives at No.3. For now. And assuming Clarke plays. Basically leaves one spot at No.6 and perhaps one spot as a reserve.

They are no McGrath Gillespie and Lee
Kerry O'Keefe pointed out that Starc doesn't have a stock ball.
And I think that's actually a pretty good call and you can see it when Starc is struggling he doesn't really have the ability to go back to the basics and hold an end down.
Having lots of variations is great in limited overs cricket but in test cricket bowlers generally succeed by more subtle variations of a stock delivery.
He'll gain that with more experience but he can gain that experience for NSW.
Johnson, Harris, Pattinson and Hazlewood are the first four quicks I'd pick to tour England. Starc could contend to be the 5th bowler but so could Bird or even a smokey like Hilfenhaus, Sayers or Behrendorff.
... they shouldThey are not changing the whole side for Adam Voges. Even then I'd be leaning towards Chris Lynn anyway.
Lynn has been injured, tbf.... they should
Also is Chris Lynn the leading run scorer in the shield? Oh he isn't? Number two? Oh he isn't? Odd
Klinger is like a not as good Chris Rogers.Maxxy Klinger deserves to be in consideration too.

Agreed. Should be the next test opener post Bucky

Stop wanting to pick youth for the sake of it. Silk has been around 5 minutesYes lets make the side even older. I've got a great idea, promote one of the youngish openers and we have a few.
