U16 AFC Championships happening now in India. How did we do?

Embarrassing, unforgivable and appalling. How good are Vietnam? Smashed 5-0 by Iran in the quarter-finals.

Quality of players coming through is just not good enough or they are being horribly mismanaged.

Not sure if u23 counts as youth but someone will point me to the right topic.

Apparently the ALeague teams kicked up a massive stink about some Lunar New Year fixture the u23s were scheduled to play and they had to bail from the comp.

Not sure how hard to facedesk.

Seems bizarre. Apparently we were going to be the only national side their (with a Thai, South Korean and Hong Kong club also competing). I can understand the clubs not wanting to release players for the tournament given their domestic commitments. Maybe they could have promoted a bunch of U19s and U21 players to make up the numbers? Surely most of those guys would only be youth level players in the Youth A League (or abroad) and could have benefited from an experience like this (even if seemingly amateurish on the surface).

U19s qualified for next year's tournament in Indonesia. Happening in Oct-Nov. Draw to be done.

U23 tournament is happening in January in China. Australia in a group with South Korea, Syria and Vietnam. Top 2 advance to knockout rounds.

U23 tournament now on
Opening win against Syria followed by loss to Vietnam means must-win game tomorrow against South Korea.

Vietnam have poured millions into their development programs to catch up to the biggest nations

Still a very disappointing result, didn't deserve to win.

3-2 loss.
Fought back from 3-0 down but too little, too late.
Just not good enough.
Anyone from this team going to make the World Cup squad?
Future of Australian soccer extremely gloomy.
We going to have Tim Cahill in a wheelchair to help us qualify for Qatar?

McGree, Da Silva and Hrustic will be there IMO, and Izzo is half a chance to go to Russia on A League form.

But the rest didn't really coer themselves in glory.

Pakistan's withdrawl means only games against the top and 3rd ranked team will count.
In ALL but one of the groups, after 2 games, the top two teams are both on 6 points.
The only one not is Hong Kong hence this table for ranking the second-placed teams

Because of the good goal difference, a draw will be enough for Australia to advance.
ie if there's a result in another group, whoever loses will stay on 3 points.
