I got a new DVD the other day and found it to be one hell of a good time

"Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!"

see here

It's rather loosely hosted by Quentin Tarantino talking about his fondness for Aussie flicks from the 1970's etc. Surprisingly it is a good history lesson for those wanting to know more about what we were up to. Which as far as this DVD goes, it was all sex, nudity, violence, sex, nudity, car crashes, sex, nudity, bikie gangs, sex, nudity, kung fu action and oh yeah, sex & nudity

haha, this was on free to air last week, one of the digital channels, late at night.
quite interesting and very controversial. i remember seeing a few of these movies when i was a kid, razorback, turkey shoot and the howling 3 were a couple. i was too young for films like stone, alvin purple, the cars that ate paris etc.
surprised to see that tarantino is a big fan of these films, i can see that he borrowed some of the shock value from them.
as a footnote, my dad's cousin was in quite a few of those movies. he played the guy in crocodile dundee that is in the bar at the start (big guy) that has the beer on his head and dares anyone to punch him in the stomach to get him to flinch. he was also in turkey shoot as well, steve rackemann was his name.
btw, that guy in the man from hong kong seemed like he was a nasty little mongrel judging by the comments from cast and crew, as was dennis hopper in mad dog morgan.

That's cool about Steve Rackman.

I used to watch the Sunday morning Aussie Pro Wrestling show, where Steve used to run around as the 'heel'. If I recall correctly he even did a Nazi gimmick with a German WW1 style officers helmet.

Dad mentioned that he used to do some wrestling under the name of The Crusher. I never met him and I think he was one of those cousins that you see once every 10 or so years.

Here's a link for you Ferris

Thanks As', didn't know half of that stuff. Will have to mention to Dad next week at the Footy.
As far as the movie Stone goes, did you find the fact that they were wild and reckless bikies yet riding bikes with bright pretty colours a little weird?
On a side note, one of my favourite Aussie movies is Alby Falzons' Morning of the Earth

Can't help but love the movie "Stone"

Have you seen the DVD release?

It has some special features in which one segment is especially about the motorbikes used in the movie. From memory the comments were that Sandy Harbutt went to Kawasaki Australia asking for 14? bikes, the marketing manager said "so I'm investing $50,000 in your movie?", Harbutt's reply was "Nope, your getting a 90 minute long advertisement"

Kawasaki went with it, and did the paint job as an individual for each of the bikes ridden by the Gravediggers. So some were colourful, some were a little dark and creepy.

All the other bikes were real bikes ridden by real bikies, who were paid in beer for turning up and doing their stuff. The funeral procession was incredible, bikies, cops, film crew & cast all did their stuff for that amazing ride.

Funny doco. One of the few times I've listened to a director's commentary. Even more wild stories on that.

How it got made is an interesting story as well. The director, Mark Hartley, was rejected all over town for funding.

So he sent a package to Tarantino, who backed him. Only then did others come on board.

Criminal that the "luvvies" didn't want to document such a colourful part of our cinema history.

Though not the least bit surprising...
