Wouldn't mind Starc for Hilfy. Not the best deck for him and can come back a bit fresher for the 3rd game.

Would depend on workload, Hilfy bowled a lot of overs. I would rest Pattinson for the Hobart test as well. Starc will provide a bit of variety that Hilfy doesn't.

What I posted in the other thread.

In: Watson
Out: Quiney

1. Cowan
2. Warner
3. Watson
4. Punter
5. Clarke
6. Hussey
7. Wade
8. Siddle
9. Pattinson
10. Hilfy
11. Lyon

Agree with most of the comments here. Minimal changes as we won most days in Brisbane. Watson has to come back if fit. Unfortunate for Quiney. I would have taken Starc into the Brisbane Test. His form has been good enough to be given a chance and I like the idea of a tall lefty. In which case Hilfy goes you'd think.

Hilf wasn't bowling badly, but didn't look like breaking through too often either. Not having any Shield games this weekend is another scheduling stuff-up by CA, a few guys looked desparately short of a long-game run, Hilf among them.
I expect he will be replaced, and quite possibly written off prematurely. The obvious choice would be Starc, given he was in the 12 already and presumably next in line.

If Watson is fit he will return, but there is the question as to whether the selectors would liek to see him get through a four day game first rather than risking him doing a Duminy. Quiney might stay in on that basis, otherwise it might be Watson in and Quiney as 12th with Hilf sent to get some more bowling in the Tas v WA game (in which case he probably misses Perth as well due to the timing of the games). Hilf needs the hit-out, and Quiney might benefit more from being around the squad a bit more.

Hilfy bowled the least overs out of our quicks, not by a massive margain though.

I thought Hilfy wasn't bowling badly as at all, had numerous reviews go against him (including that LBW that was out all day long) and is the best Australian bowler at keeping things tight at one end allowing for more attack to come from the other end. Think Warne and McGrath in that respect, McGrath kept it tight and Warne often benefited from that. Might be Tassie bias but I honestly thought Hilfy had built up a few browny points over the last 12 months where he has been brilliant, but one match where he isn't great (and not massively outperformed by the others) means he is out?

I would keep the same 11 but bring in Watson for Quiney if fit.

Watson (if fit) in for Quiney.

Otherwise, no change. Despite how toothless Hilfy looked, I think he's earnt another chance as his last 12 months have been very good. Needs to rediscover his pace and/or variety of movement. And I'd like to see more aggression from him.

No need to panic with selection, Australia won the final three days of the Gabba Test.

1. Cowan 2. Hughes 3. Clarke 4. Khawaja 5. Watson (M.Hussey) 6. Warner 7. Wade 8. Siddle 9. Pattinson 10. Starc 11. Lyon (12th) Hilfenhaus
Whilst Hilf didnt bowl badly, and i am a fan of his, he didnt look dangerous either.

Why does Steve okeefe not get a look in for the slow bowler gig. He averages below 30 with the ball and above 30 with the bat?

Bit cruel to rest him for the one wicket that will have some life in it.

Rest him from both one day series afterward though.

We said the same thing last year and he broke down, Pattinson is still young afterall. Against SL we can get away with not having him

If The West Australian and Dennis Lillee are too be believed we can expect an emergency call up for Mitchell Johnson for Adelaide. He's regained his pace and mojo by taking 9 wickets in 4 shield matches.

After Pat Howard's comments, I'd say Watson won't be playing at Adelaide. Bemuses me that they are happy to play Quiney as a batsman, but not Watson.

To a point I agree, that said we don't need a 75% fit person out there. Plus knowing Watson personally, he will want to bowl even if he isn't fit and he will break down. Perth test return for Watson. They will play it safe.
