Obviously this is important to Woods fans and historically I think more important than the premiership this year.
AFAICS if WC beat Adelaide and GWS beat North next week, Dawks will finish out of the top 4 and be jsut about fkd. but if not, it may be up to Collingwood themselves to give them the boot. To me this would make our game next week bigger than a grannie, because if Dawks finish top 4, the 4-peat record (and claim to greatest side in history) is looking very shaky.

Oh a bit of a relevant article: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...k=404581afa3075b1cba8b61cb7fb355c0-1471725848

Hawks winning the 4-peat must be avoided at all costs. Hope it doesnt come down to us to keep them from a top four spot, but if it does, then we need to stand up. Would be an extremely unlikely win, given we barely have a forward line (no Moore?), but its a game with at least some meaning, unlike the last rounds of 2014 and 2015.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say I'm in the minority when I say good on Hawthorn if they 4peat. I don't care about the record.

Will be strange for us next Sunday. It will be the only game of the year when 16 other club supporters barrack for us to win.

It's a shame we're decimated by injury, with a stronger side on the field I could certainly see us giving them a shake.

I could sense a month ago, that the hawks were only a couple of losses away from dropping, at that stage they could have finished as low as 7th, but even then our game was shaping as important. The record is in our hands next week and we must win at all costs. Conjure the spirit of the '58 premiership team and it will be one of biggest wins. Going to be damn tough though.

Yeah, I think we are no chance with so many injuries, particularly to our forwards.

I mean, we will be depending upon Jesse White as our key forward.

More than some meaning. It should mean everything. We cannot let this spoilt club achieve this feat. God I am so over them. The fact they have averaged a premiership every 3 years since coming into the competition sickens me. They're supporters shit me. Cannot stand dorkthorn. It is in our power to stop them or at least make it as difficult for them as possible to achieve it. I hope we come out breathing fire and brimstone

It must be achieved at all costs

I was barracking so hard for Port that day. Thank God they won. I hold our 4-peat record very dearly. Don't care if it wasn't in the 'modern' era, it was won on merit, and out of great hardship, at the time. Anyway, I'm off topic.
I'll reply over here where it's on topic. I half followed Port in the SANFL days as a kid as they were also magpies, while none of that transferred to their AFL team I was also cheering them home that day. I don't want someone to equal our record as they'll be pumped up as better as it's a "modern" flag. For mine a flag is a flag and from what I've read great hardship is a perfect description. Those flags basically reenforced our heart and coupled with the club helping people out really gave the working class hope, spirit and a sense of pride.

There's little doubt that those sides were our greatest ever, a handful played in the 1920/22 runners up, a fair percentage in the '25/26 runners up and the young stars formed the nucleus of the 1935/36 flags and '37-39 runners up. Almost the joining of 2 eras if you will.

Yes you likely in the Collingwood minority. But your avatar was a give away.... ;)

At all costs.
Dirty hawthorn lose...

Dirty as in their jumpers look dirty

Your not alone mate. Don't care either. I'd rather focus on us getting back up there.

For mine it's a sense of how things would have been to be a 'pies supporter in the first third of last century. Imagine living through this time.

It indeed would of been glorious but alas we cannot. If a time machine is invented I would love to go back to witness it all.:)

I'm still curious as to what my avatar is supposed to mean...

Yeah, I was gonna post the same thing yesterday.

Assuming Geelong and Bulldogs both win tomorrow (vs Brisbane, Essendon).
You will have 4 teams on 64pts (Syd, Ade, Gee, Haw) and 3 on 60 (GWS, WCE, WB)... and Hawthorn have the clear 2nd worst % of that lot. (Can't possibly catch the Eagles %, but could easily be caught by WB if they smash the Bombers).

That means that if we can beat them next week - the highest they possibly finish is 4th, but automatically fall out of the 4 if just one of GWS (NM), WCE (Ade), WB (Fre - depends on %) win... and potentially right down to 7th if all 3 teams win. If they beat us then they stay in the top 4.

It would almost make up for this shitty season if we can do that next week... be the team that puts the first nail in the coffin of the Hawks run for a 4-peat. (because they really shouldn't win from outside the top 4 - if they manage that, I will be mightily impressed).

For me this is less about the Pies' record (although I do enjoy that stays with the club) but more about how much I dislike so much of Hawthorn and their playing group, and how biased the media, umpires and MRP are towards them - that I just can't wait to see this end.
---

It'll be tough without Darcy (but hopefully Cloke comes in and has a big game)- but we have shown this year that our best is good enough. If we show up and they are even 5% off, then I can see us winning this. (If we don't show up - they will smash us, and probably use that confidence heading into the finals to have another successful run)
