Didnt say too much about himself really apart from the expected "settling in well, great bunch of blokes etc ". Nothing on how he is tracking re fitness and prev injuries which I thought should of been an obvious Q and nothing about how he sees the club and prospects for season etc. Only real comment of interest was how young the group is overall and he has kept reminding himself he is senior in regard to time in the system in this group

Yep well said. yeah I would have liked to know how the body is going ... looks great but always nice to hear it directly from the source.

Talked a wee bit about his cricket days but he didn't really rate himself even though he played under 17's Vic squad .... but footy was always on the cards.

They asked about MM and Bucks. He said it was great to have Bucks around and obviously had great respect playing against him as he was just about the best there was. Said it's great to see him running around on the track, still in great nick but thinks he still wants to play. :D If anyone has been to training and seen Bucks run around there's no doubt you select him too. I certainly would. :D

Off to training soon ... back later with a report.

GO PIES!!

Spoke to a collingwood player a couple of weeks ago and he said that his OP isn't great, he is struggling a little, and his aerobic fitness is lacking.

But is work ethic is second to none, and his ability to push through pain barriers is unbelievable.

Fingers crossed we see him in the NAB cup in the black and white tearing up St Kilda's midfield.

Great guys thanks for the update

Does worry me about his OP i have heard mixed reports where his fully fit and where he does have problems every now and then with the Op because it just flares up so the only people who will really know is Ball and the medical stuff

Worst news possible. If he is still carrying this, he is better off stopping all drills requiring change of direction and getting it right.

Also, one would have to ask why he is "pushing through pain" at this time of year anyway.....? No very smart given now is the time when you prepare your body for the long season ahead, not wear it out.

I know a guy who works at an AFL club, not Collingwood. He has attended Collingwood training regularly for the past week or two, and has given me some updates on how they're looking. He said Ball is being hampered somewhat by his groin, but is trying to not show it. It didn't look too serious, but it's definitely there.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell KS as she believes Ball's only problem was Ross Lyon.

On a more serious note that is how Ball has been for years and so the odds of him being any different in 2010 would be low.You just had to see footage of him in the rooms after any game for example.

But yes he has a very good pain tolerance.

Lets stop worrying about peoples opinions and start looking at facts. Including VFL games Ball did not miss a game last year and was arguably best on ground up till half time in the GF.
Last Year at St.Kilda before dropped according to the prospectus He ranked 2nd in clearances, 3rd in hard ball gets and tackles. He still finished 3rd in clearances for the year at st.Lyon even with being dropped. 31% of these ended up as a score the most at St.kilda. This is all with 10 less minutes per game than Hayes.
So far from what I can believe he has not missed a training session all pre-season when the coaches are most cautious about injuries.
You know I think he is fine and I just hope he can give the Pies the above numbers.

All we need is for him to improve his kicking efficiency by 5% and welcome to the top 5 of our B&F

Good post.:thumbsu:

Ball looked awesome to me today

Kicking well, moving freely, showing some speed too. Not a player you would think is struggling for fitness

good post. i agree. i think the thing with ball is that he does have OP but he has the work ethic and pain tolerance to work through it. its just a matter of managing him right.

hopefully he has a big 2010 for you guys!!!

Also struggled to make an impact to get within a bulls roarof our b&F....probably the best indicator of where he sat in the clubs pecking order...

In a side that lost 3 games for the season....if you couldnt get a stat...you had to be ordinary or Obree.

Ball will be serviceable. He'll come out great early, by July he'll be handballing knackered and will offer no goals with his opponents running off him (he cant run out a game and Lyon and Co knew this going into the GF).

500K - Hes all yours.....no way we were paying that...

And let me guess who was voting for the B&F. I don't suppose it was the guy who also got rid of him? Lyon has proved to be a great coach or has he just followed a guy who was very very ordinary and been handed a great list because St.Kilda were brutal for 4-5 years and took advantage of the AFL's weak draft rules ?

I'll just look at the stats thanks which were very good despite Lyon trying to wreck his career.

Luke Ball playing round 1 Lovett playing Ooops sorry criminals don't get to play round 1

You really wish that were true.
Fact is Lyon offered him a damned good contract and only dropped the offer after Ball had let the old one lapse and made it profoundly clear he was leaving no matter what.

This would tend to indicate that Lyon was not of the same opinion as you are.

I don't know why you bother to put your .0002 cents worth in on another clubs board? There is a whole main board and Bay13 to post your mulch.

They sure do grow some lemon trees down St.Kilda way.

Quality thinking. Let's take a guy into a GF that you don't think can run out the game. I'm sure Lyon and Co thought that. Of course.

I'd really liked to know the full history of Ball....If St. Kilda pushed him to play when he had OP when he was younger, it should hang its head in shame.

I remember shaking my head seeing Ball put himself through serious pain to get back on the field at the start of his career.... and not just related to OP but head injuries etc. It always seemed like the club was too weak to tell him to let some of the other players shoulder some of the load.

If all this has affected his longterm ability to play the game, it's a black mark against the club. If I had a son who was drafted to st. kilda, I would tell him to play cricket.

And Fred Nerk's stats were great.... where did you get them????

In the comments section of the 2010 prospectus under Luke Ball's name. I don't have a scanner so i'm sorry that i cannot upload to this thread.

When will TOOLS like your good self get it right. It's not $500k a year, it's more like $1.1/1.2Mil over 3 years!

You got NOTHING for him & you over paid for Lovett. How's that workin out for ya? lol

St. Blunda....."Screwing up is our TRADITION!"
