Ban the GABBA

First full day of Test Cricket lost at the Gabba since the 83/84 season according to ABC radio.

Yep, definitely a serious problem......................

typical response, like I said in my original post, this is not the first time fixtures have been washed out at the GABBA.

The weather cannot be trusted up there to hold internationals, if the GABBA cannot get a result out of two matches during a drought then there is no chance.

Give the extra games to Perth
why not change the the dates the games are played? the gabba gets the first of the test matches and usualy a few game early on in the odi series?

but seriously today is the first day in several months we have had and rain to speak of in brisbane

The Gabba is the best cricket ground in Australia. No other ground provides as good a balance between bat and ball, and barring rain there is always a result.

I wonder how many grounds around the world would be good to go the very next morning after a full day and most of the evening of rain?

pitch wise its probably with Adelaide consistently the best mainly due to the weather, viewing wise its nothing special id take SCG, MCG, docklands any day

The Adelaide pitch? There is far more for the bowlers at the Gabba.

I suspect most Australian grounds - the SCG and MCG most definitely. They've been redone to drain pretty damm quickly these days.

Isn't that pretty normal for Brisbane though? Reasonably dry through winter and then pisses down like a bitch in summer. They play the 1st test in Brisbane to try and avoid it, but it really should be in mid October at the latest.

Cricket would probably be a winter sport in Queensland if the rest of the country didn't play it.

Who cares about the weather, I'm more concerned about the pitch.

This is bloody boring cricket. Sure, the game would probably be over already if it were at the WACA but at least it makes for interesting viewing.

Don't worry about it. Just a typical thread of people whineing because the game's not finished after 40 overs

I don't think the pitch is that bad.
If we hadn't lost the entire day 2 the game would have been set up perfectly and the pitch would have been playing a lot differently had it been baked in the sun for an extra day.
Person calling him incompetent doesn't have a clue.

that produces results nearly every test. i think he knows what he is doing.

When the poms last toured in 2010, the Gabba wicket produced England 1-517 dec and Australia 1-108 as it fizzled out. Must have been playing the same tricks as this wicket.... It's not a test wicket.

\that would be the first match that had been drawn at the gabba that was ruined by rain in how many years. yep that's right 21. we have had 5 draws at the gabba and most of them were due to bad weather. i think he knows what he is doing

gabba test is a joke. first test should always be in perth

Why? What does the WACA offer that the Gabba doesn't?

Early November is the best time for a Brisbane Test- before the weather gets too hot for being out all day long for five days. Yep, you're likely to get some showers, but as folks have pointed out, Brisbane has only lost two full days to rain in twenty plus years. I saw four wonderful Test matches there between 1995 and 1998.

Kev Mitchell does a damned fine job on producing pitches- sure there are going to eb greentops- nature of the beast in northern Australia. He does give something to both batsman and bowler- making for exciting matches to watch- even those that end in three days.

I really despise the reconstruction of the Gabba- it really takes away the atmosphere that the ground had prior to the mid 90s. Sure, it was done for footy, but cricket could really do with about 10 000 less seats than they have now. Of course, I'd love to see the Hill brought back as well- that was where the real atmosphere was- but that aint happening.

As for the ODI- early January might be best for Brissie- and matches during the day, since the rain does tend to eb an afternoon event. Still won't take away possible washouts- you will get rain in brisbane in January- probably more so than in other capital cities. Maybe schedule two days for a Gabba ODI- but that wouldn't sit well with CA or the networks.

Actually the Gabba has the worst record of producing results of any ground in the country since 2000. The ranks are.
1. MCG 11 results from 11 Test matches
2. SCG 10 from 11
3. WACA 9 from 11
3. Adelaide Oval 9 from 11
5. Bellerive 4 from 5
6. Gabba 8 from 12* (assuming a draw in the currnet test)
