It could but I'll move it there later. You're right for now it's good for discussion.

Have they been told there is no guarantee spot for them on the list by Neeld? I wonder.

Is it a confirmed request though? Just because it by an AFL writer doesn't mean it's 100%.

I want to keep Maric personally, he has the skills necessary to be a genuine AFL player imo.

Bate, eh. The homeless man's Ezra Poyas.

The thng about Bate is he has the turning circle of Ben Holland. Always frustrated me

Yeah too fumbly below his knees as well. He seems like he could have been that hit up forward but he just isn't agile enough and isn't big or aggressive enough to play the "monster" forward role. He can't really take pack marks or smash packs to create oppotunities for crumbers. He just doesn't have a role but does have some ability which is probably why he dominates VFL but can't make the transition to AFL he's just a bit too short and a bit too unco.

Maric I'm not sure about. He seems to have the skill but appears to be lacking in his application. A new coach to give him a kick in the arse and possibly a change of scenery could be what he needs. It's a shame because he appears to have enough to play a role at least as a crumbing forward but probably too small to play anywhere else.

It's on the AFL site but information quoted is from a Herald Sun journalist.

Still, it sounds plausible.

Post Knees Ox would also be an acceptable answer.

It's all well and good to say 'I want to keep Maric, I think he could really be a good player for us', but the man has to be pragmatic. He's played 21 games in 4 years, has constantly been the first one dropped from the team and has never been given the 'charmed' run in the seniors that the likes of Morton and Watts (to a far lesser extent) have enjoyed this year/last year respectively.
Sure, if given another chance under Neeld he could turn it all around and become a star Aker-style HFF/mid, but step into his shoes for a second: what if his unfavoured position doesn't change, or what if he does a knee and spends all next year on the sidelines? He'll get delisted at the end of next year and see out his days in the VFL.
Yes, I'll be annoyed if he goes to another club and makes it big time, but the reality is that 1) he has to look after his own interests for the duration of his unmercifully short playing career, and 2) some players just need a different environment to thrive and get the best from themselves - see: every player ever traded to Sydney. He has to strike while the iron is still lukewarm.

Same applies to Warnock and Bate. Who in their right mind would stick around if those in high places told them "don't leave mate, we really rate you as a back-up Full Back/3rd tall option and you might get a few games if someone goes down. Plus Casey really love your work!"

Oh absolutely.

I don't begrudge any of these guys seeking opportunity elsewhere.

Conversely, the club has to look after itself and ensure the opposition doesn't get too strong. If we feel Maric has potential, we should be trying to hold onto him, and threatening him with letting him walk to the PSD and end up playing interstate. I'm all for letting him try to 'look after himself' but we hold a fair portion of the cards in this game.

I think if they are not getting a game they have every right to chase a game at another club. Let's face it Maric is in the same boat as Cheney and they will always have trouble getting a game until in a few years time they will be de-listed, just not consistant enough. Bate is a different story, he's shown enough to be a good player if he just worked harder on consistancy. Warnock we haven't any room for and would be better somewhere else.

Swap Bate and Maric's names around there UP.

My mate has said that we are fielding enquiries for bate as we speak. Looks like we are looking at picks to package for the mini draft. The Gilbert/ Warnock thing was mentioned a few weeks ago and he said if they are going to do it they will do it late as they would have discussed this for the past couple of weeks with st kilda.

What would you want from West Coast for Maric? Apparantley we were into him in his draft year. We really need a small forward. Whats his tackling like?

Maric? Tackling? Sure you are on the right board? Knows where the goals are though

To be honest I've never seen him play. We do really need a quick goal sneak but would prefer someone who can put some forward pressure on. Banfield from Brisbane is someone I would love. Maric a similar player?

He seems to have talent but no drive. I don't know if it's curable but if it is he'll be a good pick up. My query is why he wants out right now. Bate and Warnock I understand but a small forward position is up for grabs here and he doesn't seem to want it. Did Neeld tell him some home truths about himself and he thought a fresh start would be easier than putting in the hard yards?

Maric plus pick 54 for pick 40 to North Melbourne lock it in looks a done deal.

Wont be announced till after this GWS mini draft gets done.

If this is true then North has got a much better deal out of this than we have.

That is a ridiculous deal. How is pick 40 going to help us anymore than pick 54 would, particularly in a shallow draft. Rather keep Maric for another year under new coaching department.
