My friend had a theory that the V stood for Vietnam

Reckon I’m in a small minority that would love it be a WW2 setting again. BF1 played like a WW2 game anyway so throw in some Stugs, Panthers, T-34s, Abrams with BF109s etc, recreate Kursk, Battle of the Buldge, Market Garden, and like you said in Frostbyte, and it should be nuts.

Recon the V just means 5 to be honest.

BF1 was a solid game that was unfortunately shallow and lacking compared to it's predecessors.

Vietnam would be my preference but i'll take anything that isn't WW1.

I would love a Vietnam game personally. Don't think I have ever put any real time into a Vietnam based one but love the setting.

I was hoping the next one would be a refresh of BF1942, but based on that I'd say it's Vietnam. Battlefield Vietnam wasn't a bad game, probably not as enjoyable as 1942 and perhaps a little overshadowed by the Desert Combat mod for 1942. It would be good if they just followed wars in order though.

I've interpreted that tweet as correcting PC Gamer in saying that's not V as in 5 or anything to do with Vietnam, but it's actually named V. It's an interesting time to announce a new BF game if it is in fact WW2 because the anniversary for Victory Day was only a couple weeks ago and we're a couple weeks shy of D-Day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I loved BF1, still do. So hopefully they keep it similar with the play style and fine tune smaller issues internally.

DICE haven't used roman numerals in their previous titles so I reckon the V does stand for Vietnam and not 5

Edit: Also Battlefield 1 came after Battlefield 4 so why would the V stand for 5?

Yep. That was the peak of my online gaming. Over 1000 hours sunk in, have never gone over 200 hours for any other game.

And then they brought out the Vietnam expansion for free on disk which was a whole new game. What was there, 10 map packs released for free?

Getting sad thinking about it :'(:D

Yeah WW2, up the top the UI has the Union Jack of the Brits as the blue team versus the Iron Cross of the Nazis as the red team.

Excellent, this opens up some cool opportunities for massive naval/air battles, not to mention mass beach landings like the old Omaha Beach and Wake Island maps, or even something like a Pearl Harbor map with 16 planes vs. everything else destroying targets instead of capturing locations.

Yep and with War Stories coming back from BF1 It'll open up a larger amount of areas to battle instead of being tied to just Europe, although Pacific will probably be DLC

I pumped a tonne of hours into BF1, so this is one of my most anticipated games of the year. Much prefer the WW1/2 setting over modern/futuristic.

Pretty sad that we can probably already guess the DLC. Reckon it will be '44 onward, hence the V, so Pacific and Africa will be DLC as to not conflict with the timeline, then either whatever isn't included in the base game between Mediterranean (Crete/Italy) and Eastern Front. Can't see a BF game missing the opportunity to recreate Kursk. Pacific will exist to re-create Wake Island map. Africa for Operation Crusader and Aussies to get a mention again.
