Compared to his previous standards in the season in which he was probably a top 5 player and played blitzing football I thought Beams was average at best in that final. He would probably admit that himself. Considering he has had a problem of underperforming in finals it was a bit disappointing.

Have to agree, thought the same during the game, but having scans after the day after the game suggests he was not quite fit. I expect him to return with a bang against the Eagles.

More bang for buck. Beams is a pick 29 and Cotchin is a pick 2, I think Beams is the better value player realistically speaking. They both had stellar 2012 seasons, Beams being the more improved player (we all know how good Cotchin is after last year)

The OP asks "Who would you take" I would much prefer Beams as a pick 29 rather then spending a pick 2 on Cotchin. But that's just me.

Yep, there's always a scapegoat. He didn't play as well as he has been, but he didn't disgrace himself either, would be in our best 6 I would think. Well after he was dropped for the GF last year after a two possesion Prelim the injury card got reeled out.

Why would he be dropped on the numbers he put up coming into finals? Why did he play forward pocket in the prelim when he had been playing midfield/flanker beforehand? Why was he under an injury cloud coming into the prelim final? What would Collingwood have to gain from making up an injury?
