...forget about the finals. I know it's early but I think it's that simple. Melbourne were disgraceful yesterday. We'll never get an 'easier' away game. I don't care that they might 'come out fired up.' That's what we should be doing. To start 0-4 would mean we'd need to win around 12 from 18 thereafter. In other words, to play like a top four team for the rest of the season, just to scrape into the eight.

I think we MUST draw a line in the sand here. Win and the season is alive. Lose, and start planning for next year. If that means playing Warnock etc to give them experience, then so be it.

Here's hoping we give Melbourne a hiding next Sunday. We could use some percentage back as well. :thumbsu:

The game against Melbourne is a must win i agree. With the demons having Neitz and Robertson out. If we lose this game this season will just about be a right off, will have to play the kids.

We can still play finals if we lose this week, but it will certainly be tough. We need to win 9 out of 10 at home, and atleast 3, preferably 5 away. If we drop another 2 games at home (and we still have to play Port, Crows, Eagles and Saints at Subi) we won't finish top 6.

Guys don't get to worried yet.You can still make the finals.Momentum will change as i have said in an earlier thread, most top sides lose a few early on then pick up the pace as the others drop off.
Once farmer comes back freo will start winning a lot more games.I reckon he is your missing link in that forward line.Schammer will be back in a few weeks and things will pick up.
What must happen in the meantime is that you have to win a couple without those guys to keep in touch. That should happen starting this week against an undermmand Melbourne.

I think if we lose to Melbourne we should tank this year and get the number 1 draft pick. Play all the rookies and old people like Carlton and Essendon have been doing to achieve this "fairly". It won't happen though because the people at Freo don't seem that "smart". I mean it would be better for our actual team if we did tank and get high draft choices.. but it won't happen because of memberships and things like that.

Of course I don't think we will lose to melbourne. We will have to see how we go in the 2 games after melbourne to see if we should tank or not. I think we are going to be around 1-5 in 2 weeks unless something drastic happens to our team.

I'm not sure why everyone is thinking that we're doing terrible, yes the table says we have 0 points, but you know, if a couple of minor things were different, we would of won the first two rounds - and then everyone would be talking it up.

Problem is - too many players either on suspension - or injured. We've got the players - we've proved that in the past.

Get the players out of suspension mode - and we've got our team.

Never mind aiming for top 2 or 4 - lets start with the aim of winning the next couple of games - if we focus on the games - the wins will come, the finals will come and then people will again say what a great team Freo are.

The problem is that many supporters felt that this season was going to be a big one. Expectations were very high. By that measuring stick we are not travelling too flash.

If we realign our goals to just making the finals, as you are suggesting, it doesn't look that bad.

if we lose against melbourne ... start looking to 2008 :o

CC will have to go if we are 0 - 4 .....

EDIT: no carr and headland .... not looking good!

Yep, 0-3 is recoverable, 0-4 probably isn't, especially when the aim after the 22 rounds is top 4.

IMO, the next 2 games are must wins.

I can't see what the fuss is that we must be in the top four. Yeah, ideally that's where you want to be, but without knowing the history I'm sure teams have won from outside the top 4 - yeah hard it may be, but the reality is still there.

If we go 0-4 then the year isn't over - it's tougher yeah, but who wants to support a bunch of pussies who get it sweet all the way through.

Personally - I want to see the true grit of the club - see them fight for the wins, get the respect that a lot of the supporters give them.

Either way - it's my first full season as a Freo supporter - and there is no way in hell I'm not going to enjoy it.

Watch for the rest of the season, these boys will lift their game. Watching the game on Saturday, we could easily of been up at the half time siren, and then what could of been?

Lighten up on them - I'm sure they want to win - I can't see any of them walking around saying we've played the best we can, we may as well look at next year. They'll be hurting more than we are.

I'm sure carlton and essendon threw in the towel after round four.

If we are 2-10 or something similar I will be happy to play the young fellas and built for next year, but to suggest doing that after 4 games indicates that you aren't that "smart".

Finishing outside the top 4 would mean winning a semi and prelim away from home, which would be bloody tough. If we finish outside the top 6 we would have to win 3 away finals to make the grand final.

If we miss the top 4 we need to hope that we finish in the same half of the draw as west coast. Play at home first week, away the secon then an "away" prelim at Subi. That's probably the only way we'll play in a grand final from 5th or 6th. We won't win 2 away finals against top 4 sides.

The crows are the only team to win a flag from outside the top 4 since a top 8 system was introduced.

Thanks, I didn't know what the status was on that. All I can say to that is if we finish outside the 4 - I hope we will be the second :)

Once. Adelaide in 1998 - and they actually lost their first finals game, something that the current finals series does not give you the luxury of doing from 5th.

It is not reasonable to think that you've got a realistic chance of the flag from 5th or lower.

To the few people who still believe top 4 is possible after a 0-4 start, at what point, exactly, do you believe is irrecoverable? If we get to 0-4 we face Adelaide at home then Brisbane away (never ever beaten the Lions away), this would make us 0-6 (assuming we lose these 2 tough matches), now do you see why our next few games are so dire?

FWIW we verse Hawthorn at home after all that, should be an easy win.

I believe the standard reply is to take it a week at a time.

Who cares about what happens in a month?

all that matters is putting melbourne on their arse

I'm looking at a very real scenario though, and a very worrying one at that too.

We need to win 5 away games to finish top 4. Looking at the fixtures that will be practically impossible if we don't beat Melbourne or Brisbane. After that we play Geelong, Collingwood, Bulldogs, Swans, Adelaide, Saints and Port away, which looks like a tough run at this stage.

I'd say we need to beat Melbourne, Pies, and Dogs (Darwin) away before the break, aswell as all of our home games, to be a chance of finishing top four at the split round.

Don't worry guys, Freo will thrash the pants off the Dees...your 3 losses have actually been commendable. Our 3 losses have been an utter disgrace.

I saw us V Geelong and I think I'm scarred for life. Some of our play was under 14's standard. We don't have a foward line. Davey, Johnstone (who may have a broken hand), Yze and White are in career worst form, we're missing McLean.

Perhaps with Rivers returning and a mighty effort from Carrol,we may contain your forward line, hense a closer score line. Plus you guys have key players out too.

I personally don't think you'll have any problems beating Melbourne.

How the mighty have fallen, hey?

Wasn't it only six months ago that these two teams were fighting for a spot in the preliminary final?
