Beatlesmith's Top 40 Phantom draft (with explanations)

I would need new pants if we landed Scully, Trengove, Panos, Sheppard and Vardy would be an absolute awesome draft if we do.

Agreed. New pants would definitely be required if that draft eventuated.

The great thing about our selections is that new pants are probably going to be required anyway :D

Lucas is more an outside mid IMO and you really shouldn't be targeting those types of players in the top 10 of the draft. If he could get more penetration on his kicks and prove to be a target up forward at AFL level then he could be another Andrew Embley I suppose but he could just as easily just be another Matt Rosa - a tallish midfielder running around in space and collecting a ton of the ball but wielding little influence on the result of the match.

Agreed ! We have enough midfielders, any addition of 17-18 years old midfielder will not improve our strength that much in these few years. Our weakness is on crumbing close to the goal; our priority this year is to get a reasonably matured crumber. If we can't get Stoke thru trade, pick 7 is needed to get a crumber not another midfielder (unless he was Chris Judd or Peter matera). An excellent player with superquick eye-hand-foot coordination is what we want.

Good effort.

No Andrew Moore in the top 40? He is top 20 for mine.

I very much doubt Tom Hill will be top 20. More likely to be a 3rd round pick.

Why do you think that the Eagles would go for two inside midfielders with their first two picks ? One such player I can understand (on the "best available" basis) but I would think that, having taken one player of this type, the club would look for either an "outside" speedy winger or a small forward or small defender before taking a second inside midfielder.

what are peoples thoughts on ben jacobs

just watching some of his carnival tapes and he looks like a promising midfilder that reminds me of perhaps martin mattner

he has a raking left foot, has a strong body, composed and appears to have good vision and decision making. also can kick well on his right which is seen on his tape with a nice pass

could be a 4th round pck that could prove handsome as he could be a very good designated kicker from half back to midfield

hes not old enough u idiot! dont u no anything!!!
but he is a good player. future gold coast premiership player no doubt.

I rate Griffiths higher. Has enormous potential.
Not many prospects are fantastic pack marks, quick, agile (at 100kg) and have a 60m, accurate set shot.
If it weren't for his injuries I think he would be rated up there with Butcher.

Melksham is in there (pick 26)
Tapscott is neither here nor there for me. Needed to participate in the DC and prove he has a decent fitness base and has pace to stake his claim for top 7 or so selection.

Geelong win flags with footballers and Tapscott is a very good one. The compulsion with always trying to recruit athletes over natural footballers is slowing weaning.

Tapscott not going to draft camp will not harm his chances of being a top ten. The proof in his ability is what he showed in the championships.

Good effort mate but be aware of Trengove, he is definitely not KP material. Outstanding all round midfielder but nowhere near big enough for a KP.
???
You misunderstood. I said Trengove is a great midfielder, and that they will go with a KPP later on.

Draft order and selections have been updated to accommodate both the exchanges of picks and the new needs of clubs post trade week.

Eagles will not take 3 mids(Colyer is a mid)
I see your point, but after losing Fletcher, Stenglein, Macnamara (probably), Staker (in his outside mid persona), I think we will stock up further on mids.
If we were going to go KPP, it would almost certainly be for a forward, and I don't think there will be any suitably good prospects for FF (not CHF) at those picks.
Colyers position is ambiguous. He may be a mid in the long run, but he plays most of his WAFL time as a forward, and I think he would give us a good stop-gap option as a crumber, and if he excels there, leave him be.
