Kangaroo Flat wont play finals or even win unless they change there attitiude off the ground with committee etc.
Yep they are non-competitive, when did they last play finals?

They appoint a good coach, yet it seems like they don't want to recruit anyone, you need some experience to help them, even have the coach play in the back pocket, they seem happy to finish 3rd last each year, they have generally been pretty good in all netball grades though

Made a prelim when Daryl Wilson was there, did they make it first year under Murray Collins?

It’s a real strange one as most things seem like they should be in place for them to be a competitive club.

As we know though in these times it’s bloody hard to pull a club back up off the canvass. Harder than it’s ever been

If it's hard for Kangaroo Flat now, imagine what it will be like when Castlemaine and Maryborough leave or fall over.

Throw in Kyneton being only fundraising fatigue away from battling again as well and the world will get very small for the likes of Kangaroo Flat, Eaglehawk and South Bendigo.

Eventually they will just end up with four Bendigo sides playing a round robin with AFLCV wondering how it possibly went so wrong.

Not sure why you included eaglehawk, they are in no danger whatsoever.

My understanding from talking to people around the traps is Kyneton are absolutely flying off the field these days and having been up there to watch a few games here and there over the years they’d have the biggest and most loyal supporter base in the comp so as long as they continue to be managed well and smartly I’d think they aren’t far away from being an absolute powerhouse both on and off field which if the people running the league are smart will see that as a good thing.

If Kyneton have crowds as good as everyone says, they should be in a strong position, the town is growing and if people buy into the football club culture it should go from strength to strength and be like a Gisborne has been

No doubt Kyneton are in a good position at the moment but there is always going to be challenges for them in the Bendigo league from a sustainability point of view due to the demographical challenges they face as a club.

When you look at census data, Kyneton are in the same boat as Castlemaine or Maryborough in that the numbers of footy playing aged males for senior footy and the numbers for a junior base in the local area are almost impossible to create a sustainable club with. Gisborne is a different case with double the population and a younger median age.

The reality of it is those need to attract players at a much higher ratio than a Bendigo team. A Bendigo club might need to pick up 1 out of every 6 or 7 players aged 20-35 within a 25km radious, for the country clubs it might be 1 in 3. The higher median age in the outer towns generally makes the junior ratio even worse.

With declining participation rates across the board anyway it quickly becomes an impossible task, so the reality is those clubs are never going to have a sustainable base of local playing numbers or a junior base capable of feeding them, no matter what they do or how well they are run.

The only way they can obtain the playing numbers required at senior level is by bringing in a much higher ratio of non-local players which is obviously done at a considerable cost and creates huge issues around the sustainability of the club for all sorts of reasons.

Kyneton are doing that well at the moment, but they have had motivated people running a series of huge fundraisers to clear debt and get them financially healthy. Is that sustainable in the longer term? We all hope so but history would say it probably isn't and when people get tired or the inevitable ebb and flow of a footy club brings hard times again then it will be a real battle.

South vs Kyneton this week in what will be a very telling game in terms of finals. A bloods win puts them in a great position to play finals for the first time in 10 years.

Kyneton may not make finals yet, 7 teams fitting into 5 is good for the league
First time in years there hasn’t been a clear top 5. I think eaglehawk end up making it over the tigers. South would have to fall apart to not make it. Overall very good and healthy for the league.

Yes it is the most competitive top 7 that I can ever remember. Sandhurst are not out of it either. If they can beat Eaglehawk in round 15 (a massive game) and Kyneton on the QEO in round 17 and Eaglehawk lose to Kyneton at Kyneton in round 16, the Dragons will probably make it. If they can beat Square next week they would really be opening the door.

I see Eaglehawk v Sandhurst round 15, Kyneton v Eaglehawk round 16 and Sandhurst v Kyneton round 17 as the matches that will decide the top 5.

Add to that there is no outstanding favourite for the flag so as Silver states 'it is very good and healthy for the league'.

Sad to see but inevitable. How many players did the club recruit to support his initial appointment Roota?

Another example of 'cattle on the park' making or breaking a coach.

He admitted in the article that I read that recruiting wasn’t his strength..so that was always going to be tough given Flat needs recruits

Plus as i said months ago they have to many who hangon and do nothing but say plenty.

Flat use to be an ultra-competitive side years back, would be great for the comp if they can get back to challenging most teams.
They have a good supporter base, why don't they attract players like some of the other clubs in the BFL?

names of very good players( students going to uni3) were given to certain people a few yrs back but they didnt follow through with them they went to other bfl clubs and are starring
