I don't like this 'needs a rest' stuff with the only exception being an 18 year old kid maybe.

Borderline injury? OK then perhaps, otherwise the bye will do.
Agree Disco, but Graham and Browne have been playign OK in the twos and are ready to go if they are called up. Had a quick chat to the Browne Dog on Saturday. I guarantee if this bloke gets the call up, he has seen what he has to strive for and he will give it his all. Giles has been a revelation, but I have no doubt Browne can compete with his physically.

Don't like the idea of resting Maric a week before the bye. Look at the way he plays. He just runs, and runs and runs, and competes and competes and competes all day long. His contested work is outstanding and his skills are very good for someone his size, not to mention his agility. We bring Graham or Browne in, our defence goes downhill as we don't have Maric there to drift back and take a contested mark. Gus' contested work is poor, and Browne doesn't have the tank to do it for 85% of game time. We play those two instead of Maric, we are already behind the 8 ball, with Gus and Browne being exhausted by half time.

FFS don't rest anyone. They get a break the following week anyway. We didn't turn up against GC last year and look what happened then!

Plus, I'm ****ing sick of seeing us lose when we play in my home city.

:thumbsu:LET'S beat St Kilda first then worry about the "what after" when we get there.
Seems plenty of people are getting ahead of themselves.
I'm certain if we drop a game to the Saints we won't be wanting to rest anybody.
To borrow that old cliche .... one week at a time gents!

Gee the Giants have been impressive today. They are very close to picking off a big scalp, not just the Suns or Melbourne. They play a helter skelter type game that we do.
We need to win every game we can and therefore resting players is just not an option.

We are sooooo far off the point of being able to "rest" players its not funny .

Kooky talk

Geez we're a funny lot :p:o

Just watching the first half against Geelong and what is more pertinant is that they have the weeks rest before the game.

Seeing those guys getting a fortnight off after so often taking it up to teams for half a game will mean that we wouldnt want to take them lightly.

Dimma gets to choose Jonathan Pattons first ever opponent. Wonder who it will be that will give the "Welcome to the big time son".

I can see the virtue of giving Ivan an extra week off. He is shouldering one hell of a workload, and it's a long season. All his work will take its toll if he doesn't get a break, especially in the late rounds and finals IF we make it. It's the perfect time for him to have two weeks off.

That said, I wouldn't bring in Graham or Browne to replace him. If I was coach I'd say to Vickery "Ok, you've seen how a ruckman can impact games now. You do it for 4 quarters against GWS".

Definitely a danger game.

They've taken it up to plenty of teams so far this year.

1st priority 4 points.

But if we get the opportunity to put them away, we need to take it and smash the hell out of them. Percentage could be the difference between making and not making the eight.

Totally agree. Three wins separate 1st from 11th place on the ladder this morning and maximising percentage from every game has never been more important. We are perfectly positioned to work our way through the pack in the second half of the season and lock in a finals spot. Also, for a bunch of skinny young kids, GWS are performing well and learning fast. Can't see Dimma and the team easing up now, particularly after the lessons handed out to Essendon and Carlton in taking opponents too lightly.

Don't flirt with form. Our percentage could be make or break this year. Smash them, let Jack kick 10. Hold nothing back. Full on shock and awe. We have the following week for a rest.

When contending for a flag we need to be able to rest players so that everyone is cherry ripe come finals. We aren't contenders until next year and don't have the depth to do it just yet.

Definitely a game to be mindful of coming into the bye week, where players could easily lose focus and take the week off early.

Rest no one.

Good point. We clocked off a week early last year when we played Port in Darwin.

Full strength, full steam-ahead. Gotta keep racking up the % because its looking more and more likely that is what it will come down too in the final rounds
