Here's one that the assistant coaches took up at a private session up in Noosa. He's also grown his hair longer in an attempt to attract the magpie gal fanbase.

Benny Johnson always trains well.

His form all year and most of last year was very poor. I just can't see him recapturing the form that he is remembered for. I have no doubts he can be a handy player and as I said I really hope he does force he way into the side and keeps his spot. Even then I can't imagine him being a key player and hence being on the fringe. A run and carry player who can't kicks value is always limited see Rhyce Shaw this year for evidence of that.

Yes 07 and 08 were poor years for Ben

07 he hurt his ankle early in the year against West Coast and lost his dash and run, to top it off he was whacked with the suspension at the end

When fit and firing he is more than a handy player......handy players dont finish 2nd in the Copeland twice! He is our best player at breaking the lines and getting play moving up through the middle, and his kicking whilst awkward and purely left side was actually extremely effective in 06.

Unashamed fan of what Ben Johnson could be. He knows it's last chance saloon next season. Fans know it, club knows it. He's been given a chance that others before him have not, it's up to him to take it.

A couple of years ago mid-season he was number one in the AFL for effective disposal % and praise was heaped on him after all the probs he'd had with his kicking in the past.
Since then he has done stuff all.
As much as I'd like to be proven wrong, I think that it's all over for Benny.

If you are not wrong then he will be just a list filler and we don't need one of them do we?
I think he knows that and the club have obviously given him the chance to prove them right.

To be fair, I just got back from Bali, quite a few of the boys were over there for Holland's wedding and from my limited run-ins with the team, they were drinking but hardly disgracing themselves.

Cameron Ling was also staying in our hotel and had breakfast next to us one morning. Really, everyone was behaving themselves.

I can confirm what you saw Royal Sampler... my son inlaw who is an ex AFL player had a few close friends there as well and even though the event was one of celebration, players were well behaved...

Stating "most players were smashed" is totally over board, especially 24/7, but I would not for a moment doubt that people on the outside seeing a player/s having a few beers especially from Collingwood would like to promote the old Club Culture thing.

I've written Johnno off but before 2008 I had written Rhyce off. He had a great year and proved me wrong and I'd be happy for Roids to prove me wrong too.

How is he burning it up? Training does not begin for a number of weeks, they are still on their mandated break. Sounds like crap.

I went looking for Benny's left foot on the weekend, I found it at some bar in Kew (not saying which one). I have now returned it to him, so watch out, his left foot will be a killer next year.

Since his suspension I don't believe his heart was in it anymore however you must give credit that his season on a whole was actually one of his best. I wanted him out of the side before 2008 for many reasons but he made his spot and earnt it.

It was definitely his best season at the club, or more to the point his best three quarters of a season. Definitely deserved his spot in the team which makes the way the year ended even the more disappointing.

But even his best wasnt good enough. He was good, very good at times, but he never dominated.

Until Pies stop playing spuds like Johnno we wont win a Flag he was great 2/3 years ago but not now would rather play Barham Stanley Cook Wellingham all year instaed of bringing them in a dropping them 2 weeks later

Its sad because i know for a fact that Shaw fell out of Love with Collingwood Uncle and Dad both played true greats of the club and MM hated playing him he was easily in our best 22

Number 1 reason he left because of MM like always he wasnt a MM favourite but he will play BJ because thats one of his favourites

People in the club preety much forced MM to play Shaw

Unfortunately have to agree, dont know about the favourites thing, but I believe that the structurte of the side is poor, the key positions of ruck and midfield are undermanned and exposed, and our trade record is lamentable. Disipline within the club is questionable. I think it may be a longer road back than some people think.

If you want to use words like "we" and "our" you'd better express your "Pie Love" in the correct manner, up the top, just under your moniker.

The fact that Johnson is still on the list belies any-ones opinion on these boards that he is not required.

I'm not really a fan of Johnson being in our 22 next year but I would not be surprised to see MM use him either as a small defender or a tagger next year. I think his time off the HBF is up as we have too many better options than him now. Especially considering the importance of that position in todays game. His disposal is a bit too suspect for that position now. I can see some upside in him being a shutdown tagger that can win his own ball and be damaging the other way. Looking at our midfield it would be handy to have another mature body in there to help protect some of the younger players too. Not sure we've seen the end of Benny yet.....

Agreed. However if he does work his butt off over pre-season and shows some good form in the VFL early on he probably deserves to come back in.

If it's a line ball decision between a kid and Johno though then I hope we go with the kid each time.

I agree with that. He was still under contract so to cut him just to take pike 70 odd (we traded away our forth round) would be pointless. To trade him for pick 90 odd (his got less value then Rhyce did on the trade market and we wouldn't have had the pick to package with him) would have been equally pointless.

Ben has been a great club servant and loves Collingwood and unlike Rhyce I think Ben will be willing to give this everything to make it work. Either way it is a win for us. We either win by his work ethic getting him to the 22. He plays a role and makes a kid work harder to get a gig for a year or more depending on how his year goes. Or he trys hard but can't get in the 22 because the kids are better. He will at worst help our VFL side who need all the help they can get.
