Some performances stand out for mine, like Carey annihilating Melbourne under lights in 1996, Lockett's sixteen goals against the Roys in '95, or maybe his 15 goals and 18 marks against Sydney in 1992 was a better performance by him. And, of course, Dunstall's 17-goal effort against Richmond back in '92.

I was looking through the archives and found this performance by Greg Williams against St. Kilda in 1989.

25 kicks, 28 handballs, 5 marks, 6 goals. A stunning 53-possession game with a lazy six goals to go with it.

Leigh Matthews had 61 possies and kicked 11 goals in round 3, 1973 (Vs Essendon)

im only 16 so i cant remember very far back but im sure judd would have to be up there with some of the games he had at the eagles

Gee... Alec Duncan's 33 marks in a match is incredible! No one would ever get near that record now days.

Hardly 61 possessions and 11 goals though!

That was in a time when possession counts were half of what they are now.
well that was 1973 and i was born in 92 so i have not seen it. but judd has had a few 40+ position games against brisbane i think at the gabba if i remember correctly. not too bad but not as good as 61 and 11 goals though

Actually remember the stats from this game as Matthews was my favourite player. He had 38 kicks, 12 marks, 8 handballs and kicked 11 goals. Marks were not simple uncontested ones in those days which make it even more remarkable

Ok not THE best but I was there and it was fairly jaw dropping. :thumbsu:

kOUTA 1996
Round five – Carlton v West Coast
Carlton and West Coast played a classic match at Princes Park with the Blues prevailing by one point thanks to one of the greatest individual efforts of all time. Koutoufides finished the game with 35 possessions and 18 marks, none more important than his desperate grab right at the end, deep in the Eagles’ forward line. His performance prompted Blues coach David Parkin to say, “I think we would have had awful trouble winning the game without him”.:D

Sometimes an individual player will play a brilliant game in a team that gets absolutely thrashed.

For example, in 1992 Brisbane Bear John Hutton kicked 8 goals in a team that lost by 164 points to Geelong.

Dylan mate, don't fall into the trap of believing everything now is better.

Franklin is an excellent athlete and quite a talent, but plays in an era when forwards get an unbelievably easy ride. And even then he still plays for frees.

If Carey was 22 in today's game, he'd have the ton by Round 10. They'd rename the sport Careyball.

Similarly, Leigh Matthews was simply unbeliavable in his mix of skill, courage, hardness and desire to win.

There is no mid type player going round now, including Judd, who can hold a candle to Matthews.

Maybe best individual performance for a half is Pavlich V Adelaide at AAMI when the dockers staged a big comeback and fell a goal short.

Kicked 7 in the second half and was dominating all over the ground. Adelaide had no answers for him and he alone almost won the game for Freo.

Jeff Farmer's 9 goals in the second half against Collingwood on the Queen's Birthday in 2000 or so was pretty darn special.
