I don't think our midfield is consistently good enough to not have one of Ablett or Dangerfield in there.
My thought was having Danger, Ablett, S.Selwood and Guthrie rotate through there as well, with Sel and/or Guth in shut down roles when needed. These are merely starting positions, aimed at giving Menegola more opportunity and responsibility with another pre-season behind him.

Looking at getting early games into Buzza while we have experienced support around him. Same with Gardner down back.

I'm expecting it'll be viewed as to tall.
You may well be right. It's a conundrum. Gardner needs game-time. I'd give him 6 weeks early, to show what he's got. I'm looking at Hendo as the floater and Harry as the rock - but we may need to play Hendo forward if we are getting caught out for pace - add another mid/small to the back 6 if needed. Bews, Tuohy and Stewart, + 1, to provide run.

If Thurlow isn't best 22 next year he will leave and that's sad because if he didn't do an ACL in 2016 he probably would've played at least 40 matches in the past two years and cemented his spot and shown us what we all know he could be.
I had him down as a lock for best 22... all going well through 2018. Hoping the break and pre-season see him regain full confidence and he gets an early opportunity.

Menegola has shown that he is a much better player when in the guts, so I like your logic.

No Menzel but I like it

Stanley: 100 games
Murdoch: 92 games
Black: 54 games
GHS: 47 games
Ruggles: 22 games

Plus draftees. It's not great but I don't think it's as dire as you suggest. Most of the above can play a role and I'd add Gregson to the mix of okay role players if he can get healthy.
We have zero forward depth then because Black and Stanley up forward are both absolute spuds. We better hope Buzza starts developing into an AFL player.

Should be able to walk into the spot Mackie has made available. He's the best field kick on our list in my opinion and we desperately need that now that Mackie is gone. If he doesn't get games he'll walk to another club for absolutely nothing and become a gun.

My team for next year, as it stands
B Bews Henderson Thurlow
HB touhy Taylor Stewart
C Cockatoo J.selwood C.Guthrie
HF Parsons Blicavs Parfitt
FF Ablett Hawkins McCarthy
Foll Smith Duncan Dangerfield
Int Menegola S.Selwood Kolo Gregson

No way danger doesn’t start on the ball, doesn’t mean he can’t go forward though.
Can’t find spots for Menzel or Stanley.
Not saying Blicavs is a good fwd, but we have no other options, and at least he can get up and down the ground and compete. Dogs and Tigers have won the last two flags with only one key target. Key thing I like is the mobility of the backline which we lacked with domsy. All those fwds can supply manic pressure, but all are good decision makers.

Danger starting forward will be a case by case situation I think. Can't do it every week, otherwise it becomes a bit prdeictable.

Hopefully everyone's fit and available for Round 1.

Interesting to see some omitting Menzel.......A 40 goal forward doesn't get a game? Yet McCarthy is in everyone's team. Interesting......

Menzel is a special, and a way better player than McCarthy. With Ablett getting most attention and Hawkins presence, you want someone to slide in, take a grab and kick a goal. Menzel is dangerous because he has great hands and kicks goals.

If he's fit he should play.

Best kick for goal in our team by a long way.

He'll be even more dangerous if our small forwards can stay on the park and take some pressure off him.

Where our list is right now, I hope we go in with a smaller forward setup next season but keep Hawkins deep.

So copy Richmond and hope our forwards learn to tackle?

Not just the forwards but our mids need to apply more pressure up the ground too.

I think our zone is a bit of an achilles heel in that our first reaction when we don't have the ball seems to be go and 'guard space' rather than attacking and putting pressure on the ball carrier.

I'd rather see our forwards and mids applying pressure while the back 6 or even back 7 stay back and defend the goals.
