That's a small forward-line. It would be interesting to see and a big change from what Scott has traditionally selected but not out of place given the list profile.

FB: Bews - Taylor - Stewart
HB: Tuohy - Henderson - Kolo
C: Menegola - J.Selwood - Duncan
HF: Kelly - Menzel - Crameri
FF: Fogarty - Hawkins - Cockatoo
Fol: Smith - Dangerfield - Ablett
Int: Blicavs - Guthrie - S.Selwood - Parfitt

Emerg: Thurlow - Buzza - Murdoch

Notes:
- Smaller orward kine with more mobile forwards (Crameri, Menzel at chf, Kelly to play high half forward and through the mid)
- assumes McCarthy and Gregson are not fit, in which case Fogarty can come straight in to play that manic tackling pressure fp.
- Cockatoo to play 50/50 forward and through the middle as an inside mid
- Parfitt to play 70/30 as a mid.
- Danger resting forward 30% of the time... Ablett 25% of the time. Leaving most of the mid grunt work to the selwoods, Menegola, Duncan.
- Guthrie 30% in defense
- Crameri and Kelly up the field.
- Hawkins goes to CHF when Danger or Ablett are deep
- If Gregson/McCarthy are fit they come in for Fogarty but I want to see Gregson playing as a linkman in the middle as this is his position.
- Blitz to be 2nd ruck, spending time in defense as that quarterback marking role so he can learn the caper and slowly develop next year onwards as a key defender.

Great post and a well settled side

After today, I can see the team being as follows:

B: Bews Henderson Kolodjashnij
HB: Stewart Taylor Tuohy
C: Duncan J.Selwood Kelly
HF: Cockatoo Hawkins Gregson
F: Crameri Menzel McCarthy
Foll: Smith Dangerfield Ablett
Int: Blicavs Menegola Parfitt S.Selwood

Which would see our VFL side looking something like this:

B: Cunico Gardner Z.Guthrie
HB: Thurlow House Murdoch
C: Narkle Horlin-Smith Parsons
HF: Fogarty Buzza Miers
F: Black Ratugolea Jones
Foll: Stanley Constable C.Guthrie
Int: (from) Abbott Hayball O'Connor Henry Simpson

Int: Blicavs - Guthrie - S.Selwood - Parfitt

This all seems pretty good and logical, let's see what coaches end up doing... Hopefully Kolo is not on the Wing again. Thurlow and Murdoch might struggle to get games unless there is injuries, and Blicavs is on the cusp of being kicked out of the Best 22 IMO. But have to wait and see.

Pretty good side. I still think by playing Blitz in the ruck it gives us another spot ... and after recruiting Crameri id say he will get in there somewhere. Smith will have to really show his worth. Be a very good draft if we have two come straight in.

If Thurlow is fit id like to squeeze him in but Im not sure who would go out.

I get why no one puts him in because we are stacked but he will most likely leave if we don't play him as a best 22 and his untapped talent I feel is too much to lose.

Please play Thurls.

Hopefully the Bews improvement last year/arrival of Stewart/Tuohy, not to mention Kolo playing that HB/wing role as well, has really lit a fire under Thurlow ahead of preaseason. Needs a big one. Obviously it takes time to come back from a knee, I hope he can get back to what he was showing pre injury.

I found it hard to squeeze 25 or so into the side. I'd have Blicavs as 2nd ruck, I think that's his best spot - coming off the bench and spelling Smith - and I'd prefer a smaller set-up up forward at this stage but Crameri is right in the mix.

The defense is where I really struggled to narrow down the 6. Henderson and Taylor will be the talls. Tuohy and Bews pick themselves and Stewart had a good enough year last year to warrant first rights as the 3rd tall. It ultimately came down to Thurlow or Guthrie coming off half back and I think they prefer Guth at this stage and I couldn't fit him into the midfield.

It'll be interesting nonetheless.

Generally it's one year out and the next no matter how hard you try you aren't better than you were before the injury until the third year. Pretty sure the third year is in 2018? For example Docherty at Carlton will come back in 2019 but won't be back to his 2017 self until 2020 These injuries really are awful.

But one thing is people kept complaining about a lack of depth if we do get injuries but if we are having this issue it seems we are stacked now. This years draft has pushed GHS from around 30 to about 35 in our list depth now.

I don't know how good the kids will be in their first year, but we've drafted some talent and I'd rather they be played than the same old mediocre types we've seen failing to make the grade for years. I'd rather see Constable tried than GHS.

Agree with this. Was about to bump the Guthrie thread to ask this question.
I can’t find a spot in midfield for him but they will play him. Back to where begun may be the best option.

Can’t believe I’m saying this. I agree with you.

Wow!

I’m doing the same.

Guthries best games have been when he has played midfield in bursts rather than starting in the guts. Prefer him to play backline with small burst in there once the game opens up as his strength is more when he has a bit of space.

I couldn't get Guthrie either model into my side,or Blitz or Kolo, not to say I don't expect Scott to pick all four.
I don't think there's anything surer than those 3 getting selected, which is what I based my side on which isn't ideal. The contest for a spot in the best 22 is a healthy one, and it's of benefit to the side. I reckon a few players were complacent at times last year given our injury list and knowing their spot was safe as a result. I think Kolodjashnij lacked real interest at times, along with a couple of others inc Guthrie.

Its get down to does Smith give us enough to pick him and leave out a mid forward. Is the group of mids strong enough already that we can play Smith ... I have no doubt he will give us more ..its just does he give that much that ist worth not having a Crameri etc in the side.

The preseason games should give us an idea... no matter what we look like we will be smaller and quicker.

This is my vibe as well... and to some degree its why i have ben hesitant on Crameri. It would seem on paper that GHS and Constable are a bit away from selection atm... but Kelly and Fogerty may be right in the mix

Smith's our only pure ruckman along with Abbott and he hasn't yet debuted. Smith's a certainty. When he played well so did Geelong. I'd go as far as saying he was our barometer at times last year.

Well thats hard to deny ... his performances in the finals seem to reflect that... and whether he can be better in big games in 2018 is the hope I guess. No doubt when he plays to his best he is a standout
