Agreed, but I still don't expect to see Cuthrie playing in the VFL though. We didn't have the depth last year. Next year we have.

God please don’t lump him in with Mitch marsh!
HFF rotating mid sure, but Cocky isn't in that role as a link player which would be where Kelly is used. And I see almost no chance of him ending up closer to goal as a pure forward option, he plays primarily as an inside mid that's strong in the contest.
AFL ovals aren't as flat.Well, lets hope Cocky has a breakout game like Mitch just had........

So because Cocky may eventually become a midfielder Tim Kelly may take a small forward role? You've lost me.I don't know about that......some on BF say
NC is ultimately headed for the midfield.
I'd like to see him rotate through in 2018, gets him more involved and handling the ball more often and he needs that.
I don’t think he's that agile and evasive, like McCarthy and Parfitt or probably Miers who are more natural pocket players.
He needs to get some midfield time and just win more footy, will improve his forward game also imo.

Even if that does prove to be the case, he'd still be selected as a small forward option ahead of several others if he wasn't being selected as a midfielder. He will play midfield next year is the tip. It's a pretty competitive space.

I agree strongly with this. Fogarty is probably the best dark horse to become best 22 in 18.The forward pressure may be a reason Fogerty could get into the best22 quicker than some may think
I was just listen to Luff from Champion data talk about how the game has gone so much to a forward pressure game... I tend to think things go in cycles...and the small pressure types will be counted at some stage... but one think NC does almost better than anyone in our best 22 is tackle with venom. He is worth him in our side for that alone...yet he brings much more. We may endup having 4-6 mids that rotate thru the forwardline and he may be one of them but short term if he can bring his attack on the man and ball we will look a lot better.
Crameri is a rookie. He cant play unless there is an injury on the list and if there is an injury on the list you cant have the injured player playing in either the afl or vfl teams. And if there is an injury then its no longer best 22.Here's my best effort. I know the Thurlow selection on a wing is an interesting one, but I thought he was really good there towards the end of 2017, and I'd prefer Duncan as part of the midfield rotation, rather than on a wing.

I take that back then. Awesome news.Incorrect. Rules changed in 2018.
Rookies can play at any moment.

I like his attitude as you say, he does make his presence felt, not doubting that.
I just doubt his effectiveness as a deep forward, cutting isn't his greatest talent unlike
McCarthy etc, and he isn't that fast at it either.
Possibly injuries have played their part. I think he would better serve the team high forward where he has more space and time.

Poor effort by me.TEAM INVALID.
No Jansen![]()

Good luck to the guy, but with the mediocrity he has served up over the years he would never have even been selected if merit had anything to do with it. Frankly, I don’t want cocky’s career to be anything like his.
With more teams come poorer quality teams that lack balance.
The pressure forwards obviously exploit the defenders who are slow and/or have poor disposal and decision making.
I would assume that this would result in smaller backlines (which in the future will result in taller forwardlines again)
I think having more pressure forwards reduces the variance, as applying pressure is a workrate issue while taking marks is dependent on a lot of things (good disposal from mids and outmarking defenders).
To put it simply a pressure forward might create 1-3 goals a game while someone like Menzel will kick 0-5 goals a game but not create any(from pressure), so if he has a bad game against a good team you get zero return while the pressure forward will create a more consistent goal stream.
Personally I'd err on the side of someone who applies more pressure when it comes to selection and team balance.
As far as Cocky is concerned to me he is automatic best 22, he tackles hard which can result in injuries(and fear) to the opposition and he has a lot of talent so he gets the Varcoe treatment (gifted games due to having desirable qualities other players dont have).
If Cocky lived up to his potential he could be a top 5 player in the AFL, there is no way a guy like that should be playing VFL over the multitude of average/below average players with limited upside who are currently in our best 22.
You are desperately clinging to that one flawed measure, huh?For a player going at 9 a game that's a huge call...in fact massive!
Top5 boy! I wish.
